Cranford Posts 6-1, 6-1, Win at No. 1

LANCASTER, PA -- Host Franklin & Marshall
College edged visiting Washington College, 5-4, in a Centennial
Conference men's tennis match this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The
Diplomats improved to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play with
the win, while the Shoremen fell to 8-2 and 3-1 with the loss.
F&M won at the bottom two doubles spots to take
a 2-1 lead after doubles. Ross Silverberg and
Peter Bookman downed junior Andrew Laux
(Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and senior Timothy Parks
(Geneva, Switzerland/College du Leman), 8-2, at No. 2,
while Alec Tunner and Doug
Silverstein knocked off sophomore Aaron Ellison
(Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) and sophomore John
Menzione (Chadds Ford, PA/Kennett), 8-6, at No. 3. Junior
Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and
sophomore Kevin Papen (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney)
won at No. 1 for the Shoremen, defeating Armen
Vartan and Cameron Relic, 8-5.
The Diplomats won at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5, in
singles. Silverberg beat Papen, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2, Relic beat
sophomore Kyle Lisco (Toms River, NJ/Toms River
North), 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4, and Eric
Rouff defeated Laux, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5. Washington won
the other three singles spots as Cranford downed Vartan, 6-1, 6-1,
at No. 1, Ellison beat Silverstein, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3, and
Menzione bested Tunner, 7-6(4), 7-5.
The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30
p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Swarthmore.
