BALTIMORE, MD -- Host Johns Hopkins defeated
visiting Washington College, 5-0, in a Centennial Conference men's
tennis semifinal match this afternoon in Baltimore. The Blue Jays,
who are ranked 10th in Division III and third in the Atlantic South
region, improved to 19-5 and advanced to tomorrow's Centennial
Conference Championship match with the win, while the Shoremen, who
are ranked 12th in the region, finish the 2010 season at 12-6 with
the loss.
In doubles, David Maldow and
Andrew Wang, ranked third as a tandem in the
region, bested WC junior Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John
Carroll) and sophomore Kevin Papen (Dover,
DE/Caesar Rodney), 8-5, at No. 1. At No. 2, Jacob
Barnaby and Casey Blythe, ranked ninth in
the region, downed senior Timothy Parks (Geneva,
Switzerland/College du Leman) and freshman Josh Hedrick (Dover, DE/Dover), 8-3. Warren
Elgort and Ryan Rauck blanked sophomore
Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) and
sophomore John Menzione (Chadds Ford, PA/Kennett),
8-0, at No. 3.
Wang, the region's ninth-ranked singles player,
bested Papen, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles and Andy
Hersh topped Hedrick, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 to finish the
victory for Hopkins.
