Shorewomen Stump Engineers, 3-0, for First Win

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College picked up its first win of the season this afternoon, defeating visiting MIT, 3-0, in non-conference field hockey action on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.  MIT entered the game with a 4-0 record this season and won the New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship in 2009. All three of the Shorewomen's goals came in the first half.

Washington got on the scoreboard 1:50 into the game when senior attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) gathered a ball to the left of the cage and fired it into the opposite corner.  The Shorewomen scored again 6:55 later as junior attack Emily Trees (Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) sent a ball into the circle from the right side of the field and sophomore attack Hillary Kane (Rhinebeck, NY/Millbrook School) drove the ball home from in front of the cage.

The Shorewomen added their third goal with 7:23 left in the first half when junior attack Gussie Reilly (Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy) finished a long run down the field by beating a defender and rifling a shot into the back of the cage.

The Engineers were limited to three shots in the contest, all of them coming in the first half.  Washington finished with 26 shots - 15 in the first half and 11 in the second. The Shorewomen also enjoyed a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Junior defender Brittany Palasik (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) and sophomore defender Erin Lewns (Fallston, MD/North Harford) each had a defensive save in the win for Washington, while senior goalkeeper Shannon Davis (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) recorded her first collegiate shutout. Keri Dixon made 13 saves in the loss for MIT.

The Shorewomen will play their third consecutive home game Tuesday night, hosting Goucher at 7:00 p.m.
