Box Score CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College picked up
its first win of the season this afternoon, defeating visiting MIT,
3-0, in non-conference field hockey action on Kibler Field at Roy
Kirby, Jr. Stadium. MIT entered the game with a 4-0 record
this season and won the New England Men's and Women's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) Championship in 2009. All three of the
Shorewomen's goals came in the first half.
Washington got on the scoreboard 1:50 into the game
when senior attack Danielle
Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) gathered a ball to
the left of the cage and fired it into the opposite corner.
The Shorewomen scored again 6:55 later as junior attack Emily Trees
(Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) sent a
ball into the circle from the right side of the field and sophomore
attack Hillary Kane
(Rhinebeck, NY/Millbrook School) drove the ball home from
in front of the cage.
The Shorewomen added their third goal with 7:23 left
in the first half when junior attack Gussie Reilly
(Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy) finished a long
run down the field by beating a defender and rifling a shot into
the back of the cage.
The Engineers were limited to three shots in the
contest, all of them coming in the first half. Washington
finished with 26 shots - 15 in the first half and 11 in the second.
The Shorewomen also enjoyed a 12-4 advantage in penalty
corners.
Junior defender Brittany
Palasik (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) and
sophomore defender Erin Lewns
(Fallston, MD/North Harford) each had a defensive save in
the win for Washington, while senior goalkeeper Shannon Davis
(Sykesville, MD/Liberty) recorded her first collegiate
shutout. Keri Dixon made 13 saves in the loss for
MIT.
The Shorewomen will play their third consecutive home
game Tuesday night, hosting Goucher at 7:00 p.m.
