Box Score Rutkowski, Trees Score Goals for
Shorewomen
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College scored one
goal in each half and outshot visiting Goucher, 28-3, en route to a
2-0 non-conference field hockey win this evening on Kibler Field at
Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
The Shorewomen (2-2) took a quick 1-0 lead 6:08 into
the game when junior midfielder Gussie Reilly
(Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy) blasted in a
shot from just inside the circle which was deflected in by senior
defender Sara
Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser). The
Shorewomen got off nine more shots in the opening half, but could
not find the back of the cage again before intermission.
Junior attack Emily Trees
(Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) doubled
the lead when she scored after collecting a loose ball in the
circle with 17:36 remaining in the game.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Davis
(Sykesville, MD/Liberty) made one save in her second
straight shutout win for Washington. Micki
Manheimer made 15 for the Gophers (1-3), who also got a
last-second defensive save from Lindsay Jones.
In addition to their 28-3 advantage in shots, the
Shorewomen enjoyed a 20-1 margin in penalty corners in the
game.
The Shorewomen return to action Friday with their
Centennial Conference opener, a 5:00 p.m. game at Muhlenberg.
