Phipps Makes 15 Saves in Loss

WESTMINSTER, MD -- Host McDaniel College scored one goal in each half to post a 2-0 Centennial Conference men's soccer win over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Westminster, MD.  The Green Terror improved to 4-8-2 overall and 1-5 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 3-7-2 and 1-4-1 with the loss.

Washington senior goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) saved each of the first seven McDaniel shots in the first 19:07 of the game, but the seventh save, off a shot by Shane McCracken, rebounded back to McCracken, who booted the ball in to give the Green Terror a 1-0 lead at 19:09. 

The score remained 1-0 until the 69:26 mark when Mike McClain added McDaniel's second goal. The Shoremen's final three shots of the game came in the final 3:13, but each went high or wide as the Green Terror preserved the shutout.

McDaniel held a 24-17 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks in the contest.  Phipps finished with 15 saves in the loss for the Shoremen, while Zach Nibbelink made six saves to pick up the shutout for the Green Terror. 

Freshman midfielder Connor Curro (Lutherville, MD/St. Paul's) registered a team-high three shots for Washington. 

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Wesley.
