GREENSBORO, NC -- Visiting Washington College posted its second straight 9-0 shutout as the Shorewomen defeated Guilford in a non-conference women's tennis match today in Greensboro, NC.
The Shorewomen (2-0) won at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default. Washington won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by identical 8-0 finals as juniors Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]), ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region in doubles, blanked Mackey Wesner and Natalie Sutton at No. 1 and freshman Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) and sophomore Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) shut out Anne Mogavero and Liz Killion at No. 2.
Finnegan won at the top spot in singles by a 6-1, 6-0, final over Wesner. Marshall defeated Sutton, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2, while Bercovici, ranked 12th in the region in singles, blanked Mogavero, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Sophomore Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) added a 6-2, 6-1, win against Nina Bollag at No. 4, while McNicol beat Killion, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:30 p.m. match at North Carolina Wesleyan.
