Washington Wins All Six Singles Spots in Straight Sets
ROCKY MOUNT, NC -- Visiting Washington College posted its third straight 9-0 victory to open the season by blanking host North Carolina Wesleyan in non-conference women's tennis action this afternoon in Rocky Mount, NC.
Juniors Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]), the region's eighth-ranked doubles team, defeated Samia Kacher and Kristin Seidel, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) and sophomore Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) defeated Bristy Parker and Tori Jones, 8-3, at No. 2, while sophomore Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and freshman Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) beat Carole Ateba and Tija Riley by an identical score at No. 3.
In singles, Finnegan posted a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Ateba at No. 1, while Bercovici, the region's 12th-ranked singles player, downed Kacher, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2. Marshall was a 6-0, 6-2, winner over Seidel at No. 3, while McNicol beat Jones, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4. Cohen beat Parker, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 5 and Daller topped Riley, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 to round out singles play.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. match at Christopher Newport.
