Shoremen Solve Green Terror, 2-0

Box Score

Gabriel & Wild Score Goals in Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College defeated visiting McDaniel, 2-0, for the first time in nearly eight years in Centennial Conference men's soccer action tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shoremen improved to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play with the win, while the Green Terror slipped to 5-8-1 and 1-5 with the loss.

Junior forward George Gabriel (Cambridge, England/Hinchingbrooke School) broke a scoreless tie by knocking in a rebound just off the goal line on an initial shot sent by sophomore defender Joseph Fili (Sparks, MD/Loyola Blakefield) at 38:13. Fili was credited with his first collegiate assist on the play.

The Shoremen netted their second goal at 79:43 when junior midfielder Sam Wild (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) scored off an assist from senior midfielder/defender Tim Marcin (Wilmington, DE/Concord). Marcin found Wild ahead in transition who found himself one-on-one with McDaniel goalkeeper Zach Nibbelink, who had come far out of his net. Wild played the ball off and past Nibbelink and finished off the goal against an empty net.

Senior goalkeeper Tyler Cabot (Hightstown, NJ/Peddie School) made six saves en route to his fifth shutout of the season for Washington. The Shoremen's five shutouts this season are their most since posting seven shutouts in 2006. Nibbelink made six saves in the loss for McDaniel.

McDaniel held a slim 14-13 advantage in shots in the game, while Washington held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Prior to tonight, the Shoremen's most recent win over the Green Terror was a 2-1 victory in Chestertown on November 1st, 2003. McDaniel had won eight consecutive games in the series since.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Division II Goldey-Beacom.
