Box Score WASHINGTON, DC -- Host Catholic University scored twice in the first 19 minutes of the contest and made the lead stand up in a 2-0 non-conference men's soccer win over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Washington, DC. The Cardinals improved to 7-4 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-5 with the loss.
Catholic took a 1-0 lead in the eight minute on a direct kick by Mike Brennan at 7:21. The Cardinals increased their lead to 2-0 when Ian Smith scored off an assist from Earl Hamilton at 18:38. Catholic held an 11-5 advantage in shots in the first half.
The Shoremen played a more even second half with the Cardinals as Catholic held just a slim 7-6 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes, but Washington could not find the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Cabot (Hightstown, NJ/Peddie School) made nine saves in the loss for Washington, while Cam McGrory made three stops in the shutout for Catholic. Washington sophomore midfielder Bob Libera (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) and sophomore forward Sam Draper (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) each had a team-best three shots in the loss for the Shoremen.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg.
