Box Score Matt Wilfong Scores in Loss for Shoremen
ALLENTOWN, PA -- Host Muhlenberg College topped visiting Washington College, 2-1, in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game tonight in Allentown, PA. The Mules improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-6 and 2-3 with the loss.
Neither team wasted much time getting on the scoreboard as the Mules scored on their second shot of the game at 3:56 when Jeff Reinhart buried a shot off a long cross from Cody Antonini. The Shoremen also scored on their second shot of the game as sophomore midfielder Matt Wilfong (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) netted his third goal of the year from 25 yards out at 14:34. Muhlenberg regained the lead at 28:59 as Antonini sent a cross from the enplane to Jacob Joseph, who tapped the ball in for the 2-1 advantage.
Muhlenberg made that lead stand up the rest of the way. Washington's last shot came at the 73:51 mark as senior midfielder/defender Tim Marcin (Wilmington, DE/Concord) fired one wide left.
The Mules enjoyed an 18-8 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks in the game. Ellison Heil made four saves in the win for Muhlenberg, while senior goalkeeper Tyler Cabot (Hightstown, NJ/Peddie School) made nine for the Shoremen in the loss.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference home game against Penn State-Brandywine.
