GREENSBORO, NC -- The Washington College women's tennis team, currently ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region, won at the top five singles spots and top two doubles spots en route to a 7-2 non-conference win at Guilford this afternoon. The Shorewomen improved to 3-0 this season with the win.
Senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) won at No. 1 doubles by an 8-0 final over Haley Andrews and Allison Hewitt. Junior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) and junior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) bested Kim Kleimeier and Natalie Sutton at No. 2, 8-3. Guilford won at No. 3 as Dominique Crespo and Adelaide Ayres beat sophomore Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford), 6-1, 6-3.
In singles, Finnegan beat Andrews, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, while Bercovici rolled to a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 2 against Sutton. McNicol bested Hewitt, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 and Daller blanked Crespo, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4. Cohen added a 7-6(3), 6-1, victory over Kleimeier at No. 5. Meredith Shaffer accounted for the Quakers' second point of the match with a 6-1, 6-3, triumph over Stevens at No. 6.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. match at North Carolina Wesleyan.
