ROCKY MOUNT, NC -- The Washington College women's tennis remained perfect at 4-0 on the season with an 8-1 victory at North Carolina Wesleyan this afternoon. The Shorewomen are currently ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region.
The doubles tandems of senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) and junior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) and junior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) remained undefeated this spring with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Finnegan and Bercovici beat Samia Kacher and Kristin Seidel, 8-1, at No. 1, while McNicol and Cohen bested Tori Jones and Bristy Parker, 8-2, at No. 2. North Carolina Wesleyan recorded its only point of the match at third doubles, where Yvonne Kamegne and Bibhuti Baral downed sophomore Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford), 8-2.
Finnegan, Bercovici, Daller, and Cohen all stayed perfect in singles this spring as the Shorewomen won at all six spots. Finnegan rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Kamegne, 1-6, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1. Bercovici beat Kamcger, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2. Washington dropped a total of just four games at the next three singles spots: McNicol beat Jones, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3, Daller topped Parker, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4, and Cohen beat Baral, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Stevens completed the singles sweep with an 8-6 win over Alice Bouchet at No. 6.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 12:30 p.m. match at Christopher Newport.
