Box Score Wendeborn Tallies Two Saves
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Host Haverford scored a pair of goals in a 6:12 span of the second half to break a scoreless tie en route to a 2-0 victory over visiting Washington College on Wednesday afternoon in a Centennial Conference men's soccer match at Walton Field. The Fords improve to 5-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen fall to 4-6-0 and 0-3-0 respectively.
The Fords took the lead at the 66:24 mark of the second half when Russell Nicholson headed in a corner kick that was kicked in by Will Corkery to put the hosts ahead 1-0. The hosts scored the insurance goal at the 72:36 mark when Sam Yarosh's shot from just outside the 18 hit the far post and went into the goal to give Haverford a two-goal cushion.
The Fords held an 11-8 advantage in shots, while each team had five corner kicks in the contest. In goal, Haverford goalkeeper Sam Miller made three saves in recording the shutout, while Washington sophomore goalkeeper Jon Wendeborn (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) made a pair of stops.
The Shoremen are back in action on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. when they conclude a four-match road trip at McDaniel in conference action.
