Weaver Rolls to 6-0, 6-0, Win at No. 1 Singles
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Washington College women's tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 6-3 non-conference win over visiting York (Pa.) College today at Schottland Tennis Center. The Spartans fell to 1-5 with the loss.
Sophomore April Weaver (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and sophomore Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) gave the Shorewomen the first point of the match with an 8-1 win over Dea Vlahos and Darian Naill at No. 1 doubles. York evened the score she Emily Skutnik and McKenzie Krout finished an 8-1 win over sophomore Monica Benitez (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) and freshman Tricia Valerio (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) at No. 3, but Washington regained the lead with an 8-3 win by sophomore Blair Kang (Gangnam, South Korea/Westhill [Conn.]) and junior Emily Evans (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) against Emily Price and Megan Jones at No. 2.
Weaver increased the Washington lead to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-0, blanking of Vlahos at No. 1. Kang made it 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-0, win over Naill at No. 3 and Evans clinched the victory for the Shorewomen with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Skutnik at No. 4. McIntyre then added a 6-2, 6-2, win over Price at No. 2 for the Shorewomen's sixth and final point. Jones picked up York's second point with a 6-0, 6-0, shutout of Benitez at No. 6 and Krout bested Valerio, 6-1, 6-1, to provide the final margin.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Ursinus.
