Box Score Holowesko, Fili, Libera Score for Shoremen in Win
READING, Pa. -- Visiting Washington College had three different players score one goal each in a 3-2 non-conference men's soccer win over host Albright College tonight at Shirk Stadium. The Shoremen improved to 4-1 with the win, while the Lions dropped to 2-2-1 with the loss.
Albright took a 1-0 lead on its second shot on goal of the game as Vitali Zaluha headed in a cross from Austin Phillips at 9:44. The Shoremen tied things up when freshman defender Michael Holowesko (Nassau, Bahamas/Asheville School [N.C.]) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from senior forward Joseph Fili (Sparks, Md./Loyola Blakefield) at 24:41, but the Lions regained the lead just 30 seconds later as Zaluha scored his second goal of the game. Fili evened the scored for Washington at the 41:40 mark when he scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Dimitri Kaliakin (Landenberg, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]). The first half ended with the score still tied at two goals a piece.
Washington took the lead for good on a goal by senior midfielder Bob Libera (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) at 74:42.
Junior goalkeeper David Myers (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) played the first half for the Shoremen and made two saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Jon Wendeborn (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) played the second half and made a save in the 79th minute and another in the 82nd minute to preserve the win. Austin Aldinger made four saves in the loss for Albright.
Washington held a 17-11 advantage in shots in the game and recorded seven corner kicks to Albright's four.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Salisbury.
