Box Score

Horan Tallies Double-Double with 28 Assists and 11 Digs

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore setter Taylor Horan (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) notched her team-best 11th double-double of the season with a match-high 28 assists and a team-best 11 digs as visiting Washington College swept host Arcadia, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-17) in a non-conference volleyball match on Thursday evening at the Kuch Center.  The Shorewomen improve to 14-7 on the year, while the Knights drop to 9-11.

Washington College 3 Arcadia 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-17)

How It Happened
-In the first set, the Shorewomen broke open the set with a 6-0 run to turn a 9-7 lead into a 15-7 lead on a kill by Kaitlyn Marino.  Marino finished the set with a kill, her fourth of the set.
-Washington jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second set with Kristin Lee chalking up three straight aces to give the guests a six-point lead.  However, the Knights would score five straight points to trim the Shorewomen lead to 12-9 on an attack error by the guests.  Trailing 16-11, Arcadia won five consecutive points to tie it at 16-16 on a Sam Dulak finisher.  The teams were tied 18-18 when the Shorewomen went on a 7-1 run to close out the second set with Marino ending her second consecutive set with a kill.
-Down 7-6 in the third set, the Shorewomen went on a 10-4 run to take a 16-11 lead on an attack miscue by the Knights.  An assisted block by Jess Daunoras and Horan gave WC the lead for good at 8-7.  Washington, leading 20-17, won the final five points of the set to win the match with Marino tallying the clincher with a kill.  She had all three set closing points in the match, all coming on kills.

For The Shorewomen (14-7)
-Horan (28 assists and 11 digs), Lee (team-high 10 kills and contest-best 5 aces), Audrey Utchen (10 digs), Alaina Geissberger (match-topping 4 blocks)

For Arcadia (9-11)
-Makenna Micklus (contest-best 11 kills), Alexia Bell (27 assists), Kayla Resh (match-high 12 digs)

Notes
-Two teams were meeting for the first time since 2011 when the Shorewomen swept the Knights in three sets at Arcadia.  Washington downed Arcadia five straight years from 2007-11, with the 2007-10 meetings all coming at Penn State-Berks.  WC now leads the all-time series 6-0.
-Horan moves into third place all-time on the Shorewomen's career assist list.  She passed Katie Snyder '00 who had 1,425 helpers from 1996-99.  She passed Snyder on the final point of the first set when she assisted Marino's kill.  Horan now has 1,447 assists for her career.
-Washington had nine aces in the win, while Arcadia had zero aces.
