Box Score Morgan Nets 18 For Shoremen
CHESTER, Pa. – The Rowan men's basketball team used a 22-5 run in the second half to turn a 46-43 deficit into a 65-51 lead on its way to topping Washington College, 78-64, on Saturday afternoon at the Schwartz Center in consolation round of Widener's 7th Annual Tip-Off for Autism Awareness in non-conference action. The Profs are now 1-1 on the year, while the Shoremen are 0-2.
How It Happened
-Rowan jumped out to an 8-1 lead 2:32 into the game on a Dan Brogan free throw.
-Washington responded with a 19-7 run to take a 20-15 lead with 9:49 to go in the first half on a lay-in by Joey Shelton.
-The Profs countered with seven straight points to take a 22-20 lead with 8:21 to go in the half on a TJ Booth layup.
-Rowan would take a 38-36 lead into halftime as no team had more than a three-point lead the final 9:42 of the opening 20 minutes.
-Washington led 46-43 with 17:11 left in the second half on a three-pointer by Dave Knox when the Profs began the game's decisive 22-5 run.
-Gary Carthan tied the game at 46-46 to start the run with 16:58 left and the Profs would take the lead for good at 48-47 on a Rob Depersia layup with 15:52 to go in the contest.
-Josh Borrelli capped the run with a triple with 8:28 left and a layup with 8:08 to go.
-The closest the Shoremen came the rest of the way was 10 points at 70-60 with 4:55 to go on two Morgan free throws. Rowan's largest lead was 17 points with 6:26 remaining at 70-53 on a Nick Depersia three.
For The Shoremen (0-2)
-Morgan (18 points to lead all players and two steals), Kevin McCormick (12 points and squad-best five rebounds), Shelton (11 points and team-high five assists)
-Washington shot 47% from the floor (22-for-47), 46% from three-point range (10-for-22) and 50% from the foul line (10-for-20).
For The Profs (1-1)
-Carthan (14 points to lead team), Kris O'Connor (10 points, game-best nine rebounds and two steals), Chris Gross (12 points), Rob Depersia (seven assists to lead all players)
-Rowan shot 44% from the field (28-for-64), 43% from beyond the arc (12-for-28) and 48% from the free throw stripe (10-for-21).
