Shorewomen Open Spring Break Trip with Win Over Nationally-Ranked Foe
LA VERNE, Calif.— The Washington College women's tennis team opened its Spring Break trip to California with a win over a nationally-ranked team as the Shorewomen upended 38th-ranked host University of La Verne, 8-1, today. La Verne was also ranked fifth in the West region, while the Shorewomen are currently ranked 10th in the Atlantic South.

Doubles
- Doubles was highly competitive with the Shorewomen winning at two spots by two games each and the Leopards winning at No. 2.
- April Weaver and Marielle McIntyre edged out Bridget Etchegaray and Savanah Goode, 8-6, at No. 1.
- Shenelle Trujillo and Janae Chinn picked up what would prove to be La Verne's lone point of the match with an 8-5 win against Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez at No. 2.
- Krista Filiopoulos and MP Hubert pulled out a 9-7 win for the Shorewomen at No. 3 against Savannah Fisher and Madison Madewell.
Singles
- After the close finishes in doubles, the Shorewomen took control, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.
- Weaver, the Atlantic South's 10th-ranked singles player, downed Etchegaray, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1.
- Lazer beat Goode, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2.
- Martinez got the better of Chinn, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3.
- Filiopoulos bested Trujillo, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4.
- Blair Kang topped Areli Martinez, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5
- Hubert cruised to a 6-1, 6-0, victory against Madewell at No. 6.
Notes
- The Shorewomen improved to 2-1 this season with the win, while the Leopards dropped to 3-8.
