Annapolis, Md – The Washington College men's basketball team fell to the Navy Midshipmen, 89-40, in an exhibition game for the Shoremen on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
Navy, who improved to 4-2, jumped out to a 13-2 advantage 4:04 into the contest and never looked back. Washington sophomore guard Jason Zielinski swished a pair of free throws to bring the visitors within 23-11 at the 11:26 mark, however, the hosts rattled off 21 straight points to widen their lead to 44-11 with 2:32 remaining in the opening stanza.
Sophomore forward Sam Corrao finally ended a nine-minute drought with a baseline jumper with 1:46 left in the half. The Mids, who scored 30 points in the paint in the first half, settled for a 47-15 lead after hitting 19-of-31 field goal attempts for a 61 percent clip. The visitors went just 4-for-24 (16.7 percent) from the floor and misfired on 13 of their 14 attempts from long-distance.
Freshman forward Precieux Tshibangu scored on a put-back layup to bring the Shoremen within 51-22 with 15:13 left in the contest but that was as close as they were able to get for the remainder of the contest.
Corrao and Zielinski each had five points to lead the Shoremen.
Senior guard John Carter Jr. scored 10 points to pace the hosts while senior guard Greg Summers and junior forward Daniel Deaver each added eight points.
