Wright Scores Eight Points and Pulls Down Seven Rebounds for WC

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Host Christopher Newport got a game-high 19 points from Ian Anderson on its way to a 102-37 win over visiting Washington College on Friday night in a non-conference men's basketball game at the Freeman Center.  It was the first game of the 2021-22 season for both squads.

How It Happened
- The Captains jumped out to an 11-2 lead 4:38 into the game on a layup by Anderson. 
- Leading 11-5, Christopher Newport scored the next 23 points to take a 34-5 lead on a three by Jason Aigner with 5:39 to go in the first half and would take a 43-12 lead into halftime.
- In the second half, the Captains outscored the Shoremen 59-25.

For The Shoremen (0-1)
- Tray Wright (eight points, seven rebounds and three assists), Ethan Schwantes (two blocks)
- The Shoremen shot 25% (14-for-57) from the floor, 8% (1-for-13) from three-point range and 53% (8-for-15) from the foul line. 

For Christopher Newport (1-0)
-  Anderson (game-high 19 points), Aigner (15 points), Ty Henderson (12 points), Nick Thomas (10 points and five steals), Darian Peterson (nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks), Trey Barber (four assists)  
- The Captains shot 53% (39-for-74) from the floor, 39% (11-for-28) from three-point range and 65% (13-for-20) from the free throw stripe. 
- Christopher Newport outscored Washington in bench points, 54-13, points off turnovers, 24-10, points in the paint, 52-20, second chance points, 14-4, and transition points, 15-2.
- The Captains outrebounded the Shoremen by a 55-32 margin.
