Box Score Ashland, Va. - The Washington College women's tennis team evened their record at 1-1 with an impressive 6-3 victory at Methodist University (4-7) on Sunday afternoon at Patrick Henry High School.
The Shorewomen won two of the three doubles points to get off to a good start early in the match. Sophomore Irene Meng and junior Alisha White bested Abby Caddick and Sydni Lewis, 8-4 at the No. 1 position while sophomore Bin Nguyen and freshman Maria Christina Diaz-Nazario defeated Megan Kidd and Valeria Matute at the No.3 spot, 8-4.
Washington College put the match away by taking four of the six singles bouts. Nguyen picked up the first victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Casey Carroll at No. 6 singles. White won a scrappy 7-5, 6-1 decision versus Matute at No. 4 singles while senior Ella Samer delivered a bagel with a 6-0, 6-0 dusting of Luciana Forma at No. 5 singles. No. 2 Meng shook off a tough second set to outlast Laney, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 in the final match to finish up the day.
The Shorewomen will open up Centennial Conference play next weekend at home against Gettysburg.
