LANCASTER, Pa. – Washington College softball junior
Lexi Barnhart (Jr./West Grove, Pa.) and women's lacrosse junior
Morgan Sutherland (Jr./Eldersburg, Md.) were both named scholar athlete of the year for their respective sports by the Centennial Conference today. As part of winning the award, both are also named to the Academic All-Centennial team.
The award is given to a member of the junior or senior class with the highest cumulative GPA on the All-Centennial Team for that sport. Barnhart was named to the All-Centennial second team following the softball season. This is the first selection to the Academic All-Centennial team for the business major. Barnhart was named to the academic honor roll following last season.
Sutherland was named to the Centennial honorable mention team following the women's lacrosse season. This is also the first selection to the Academic All-Centennial team for biology and chemistry major after an honor roll selection last year.
Seven student-athletes were also named to the Academic All-Centennial team. To be nominated for the Academic All-Centennial Team a student-athlete must receive both All-Conference and Academic Honor Roll honors. Representing Shoremen baseball is
Anthony Sofran (Sr./Woolwich, N.J.). The economics major was named to the honorable mention team following the season. Sofran has previously been named to the Centennial Conference Academic honor roll during his time at Washington.
Two more women's lacrosse players joined Sutherland on the Academic All-Conference team.
Ellie Morrall (Sr./Contoocook, N.H.) was named to the team for the third time. The biology major was named first team All-Centennial following the season.
Alexis Tackney (Jr./Annapolis, Md.) was also named to the team. The business major was named All-Centennial second team following the season and was also named to the honor roll last season.
A trio of Shorewomen softball players joined Barnhart on the Academic All-Conference team.
Alyssa Vieira (Sr./Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned her third Academic All-Centennial selection. The biology major was named first team All-Centennial after the season.
Lexie Witmer (Sr./Drexel Hill, Pa.) earned a second straight Academic All-Centennial selection. The Psychology major was a first team All-Centennial selection.
Chloe Trefz (So./Shamong, N.J.) earned All-Academic honors inthe first year of eligibility. The economics major was named to the honorable mention team following the season.
Landon Strober (Sr./Millstone, N.J.) of men's tennis was the final Academic All-Conference selection. The political science major was named All-Centennial second team for singles play at the end of the season. This is Landon's second selection to the Academic All-Centennial team.
Over 30 more student-athletes were named to the Centennial Conference Academic honor roll. To be nominated for the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and attain a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or higher.
