TEMPE, Ariz. - Six Washington College men's tennis student-athletes have been named 2024 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Scholar-Athletes for Division III. In addition, the Shoremen were one of 129 Division III programs to have received the ITA All-Academic Team award.
Student-athletes selected for scholar-athlete had to have had grade-point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form. For the All-Academic Team award, the team needed to have a grade-point average of at least 3.2 (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
Recent graduate Ryohei Kawai (Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan/IMG Academy [Fla.]), rising seniors Johannes Ludwigstorff (Guntersdorf, Austria/Budesgymnasium Hollabrunn) and Aaradith Ravichandran (Chennai, India/APL Global School), rising junior Kohl Perkins (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal School) and rising sophomores Tichi Chialva (Cordoba, Argentina/La Salle HS) and Jorge Urgal Zuleta (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/St. Michael's) were the eight Shoremen to be named ITA Scholar-Athletes. They were six of the 1,079 from across Division III men's tennis to be named scholar-athletes.
Kawai, Ludwigstorff and Ravichandran have earned the scholar-athlete award three times, Perkins is a two-time honoree, while Chialva and Urgal Zuleta are first-time recipients.
