Box Score Jane O'Donnell Becomes WC's All-Time Leader
in Made Threes
GETTYSBURG, PA – Caitlin
Moser scored a game-best 25 points, while grabbing a
team-high eight rebounds, and Julie McGrory added
20 points off the bench as host Gettysburg College used a 44-11 run
spanning both halves to beat visiting Washington College, 77-68, in
Centennial Conference women's basketball action this afternoon at
Bream Gym. The Bullets improved to 16-2 overall and 11-2 in
Centennial play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 7-12 and
5-9 with the loss.
With the score tied at 8-8 with 15:28 left in the
first half, the Shorewomen netted seven straight points out of a
timeout to take a 15-8 lead with 12:57 left in the opening stanza
on a layup by sophomore guard/forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape
May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic). She scored five of
the seven points during the spurt. The Bullets would net nine of
the next 11 points to level the game at 17-17 with 10:22 to go in
the first on a Sara Kinsley layup.
After sophomore guard Meghan Tait (Oxford,
PA/Oxford Area) tied the game at 23-23 on a three-pointer
with 8:04 left in the half, the Bullets outscored the Shorewomen,
27-7, the rest of the half to take a 50-30 lead at halftime.
Gettysburg would break the game open by scoring 17 consecutive
points during the run to extend the lead from 27-25 with 6:58 to go
in the half to 44-25 with 3:48 left in the frame. The streak ended
on a triple from senior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May
Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) with 3:18 left in the
first half. For Jane O'Donnell, it was her 234th all-time
three-pointer at Washington and is now the all-time leader in
trifectas made for the Shorewomen. She moves ahead of Katie
Piringer '04, who canned 233 in her WC career.
In the second half, Gettysburg took its biggest
lead of the game at 67-34 with 14:15 left on a McGrory
three-pointer that concluded a 17-4 run to open the half for the
hosts. Washington would score 11 straight points to narrow the
Gettysburg lead to 67-45 with 9:13 left in the game on a Tait
traditional three-point play. The Shorewomen scored the last eight
points of the game to provide the final margin at 77-68 on a triple
by freshman guard Maggie King (Kensington,
MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) at the buzzer.
Gettysburg's Allie Dreschler
nabbed a game-best five steals, while McGrory handed out four
assists to tie for tops in the contest. The Bullets shot 45% from
the floor and 91% from the free throw line. Gettysburg had a 41-30
edge in rebounding and 12-2 advantage in fast-break points.
Gettysburg outscored Washington 36-26 in points in the paint, 31-12
in bench points and 27-20 in points off turnovers.
For the Shorewomen, Tait led the Shorewomen with 17
points, four assists, tying for the game-high, and four steals.
Sally O'Donnell added 16 points and blocked a game-best three
shots, while freshman center Erin Kile (Benton,
PA/Benton) had 15 points and totaled a game-leading nine
rebounds. Washington held a 17-12 edge in second chance points.
The Shorewomen return to action Monday with a 7:00
p.m. Centennial Conference home contest against Bryn Mawr. It will
be their first home game since January 20.
