Box Score Kile Leads WC with 19 Points
CHESTERTOWN, MD – Courtney
Fields scored a team-high 19 points, also tying for the
game-high, and grabbed a game-best eight rebounds as visiting
Gettysburg College netted a 79-63 win over host Washington College
in Centennial Conference women's basketball action on Saturday
afternoon at the Cain Athletic Center.
Washington (5-7, 3-4 CC) led 6-2 early on, before
Gettysburg (12-0, 7-0 CC) hit the hosts with a 12-0 run to grab a
14-6 lead on a putback layup by Julie McGrory with
11:10 left in the opening half. The Bullets would expand their lead
to 21-10 on a Fields three-pointer with 8:24 to go in the first.
After the Shorewomen netted five straight points to cut it to
21-15, the Bullets netted eight consecutive points to take a 29-15
with 3:52 left in the half on a McGrory free throw. The Shorewomen
would cut it to 29-20 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard
Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) with 2:43 to
go in the first, but the Bullets closed out the final 2:43 on an
8-2 run to take their largest lead of the half at 37-22 on a
Lauren Dadigan layup at the buzzer. Gettysburg
shot 50% in the first half, while holding Washington 24% from the
floor.
The guests led 43-28 with 17:56 to go in the second
half when the Shorewomen went on a 13-2 run to cut the lead to
45-41 with 13:56 left in the game on a trifecta from senior guard
Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood
Catholic). However, Gettysburg retaliated with a 13-4 run
to lead 58-45 with 8:28 to go in the game on a Fields lay-in. The
Bullets would push the lead to 20 points, their biggest of the
game, at 76-56 on a layup by Caitlin Moser with
2:40 to go. Moser would score her 1,000th career point on a free
throw with 54.7 seconds left to put Gettysburg up 77-61.
Moser, who now has exactly 1,000 career points for
the Bullets, added 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field.
Sara Kinsley netted 12 points off the bench and
along with Moser had seven rebounds. Mary Spicer
had seven assists to pace Gettysburg.
For the Shorewomen, freshman center Erin
Kile (Benton, PA/Benton) scored 19 points to tie for tops
in the game and led the hosts, while Tait added 17 points. Kile
grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and Tait tied Spicer for
game-high in assists with seven.
Gettysburg shot 54% from the floor for the game,
while holding Washington to 37%. The Bullets shot 57% from
three-point range, while the Shorewomen netted 53% from behind the
arc. The Bullets held a commanding 43-22 edge in rebounds and a
30-11 advantage in bench points. Gettysburg had 18 turnovers, while
Washington committed just 14 turnovers.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00
p.m. Centennial Conference road game at Franklin & Marshall.
