Shorewomen Stuff Fords, 75-61, in Home Opener

Tait Finishes One Assist Shy of Triple-Double 

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior guard Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) finished one assist shy of a triple double and host Washington College saw all five starters score in double figures during a 75-61 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Haverford tonight inside Cain Athletic Center. Haverford came into the tonight's contest allowing just 47.8 points per game.

Washington (3-3, 1-1 Centennial) led by as many as 10 points in the first half and held a 33-24 advantage at halftime. The Fords (3-3, 1-2) cut the lead to seven with 16:28 left in the second half, but the Shorewomen ran off the next nine points, capped off by a put-back by junior guard/forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) to stretch the lead to 46-30 with 14:27 remaining in the game. Washington led by double figures the rest of the way.

Tait scored 14 points and brought down 11 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, to go along with her career high-tying nine assists. O'Donnell scored a team-high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Sophomore center Erin Kile (Benton, PA/Benton) added 16 points, converting all but two of her nine field-goal attempts, and brought down a team-best 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Kelly Mitchell (Laurel, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) added 14 points, while freshman forward/center Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, VA/Indian River) tallied 10 on five-for-six shooting.

Dominique Meeks paced the Fords with game highs of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Victoria Sobocinski scored 15 points as she knocked down five three-pointers. Nina Voith added 12 points for Haverford. 

Washington held a 43-33 advantage on the boards as the Shorewomen out-rebounded their opponents for the fifth time in six games this season. The Shorewomen shot 14-of-19 from the field and 13-of-16 from the free throw line in the second half to finish at 50% from the field and 78% from the line in the game. Haverford shot 31% from the field and 58% from the free-throw line.  

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against 18th-ranked Muhlenberg.
