Box Score Perlow Scores Twice in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Third-ranked Gettysburg used a
four-goal run in the third quarter to pull away from host
Washington College en route to a 13-5 Centennial Conference men's
lacrosse victory this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr.
Stadium. The Bullets improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference
play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 3-6 and 1-4 with
the loss.
Neither team scored until Andrew
Ryan put the Bullets on the board with a goal off an
assist from J.C. Ward with 7:28 left in the first
quarter. Washington evened things up when junior attackman
Josh Perlow (Owings Mills, MD/Boys Latin) scored
off an assist from freshman midfielder Patrick Coyle
(Reisterstown, MD/Calvert Hall) with 2:20 left in the
first.
Gettysburg scored a pair of goals in a 33-second
span to open up a 3-1 lead in the second quarter as Joe
Brody scored off a Chris Cahill feed with
8:04 on the clock and Kyle McGrath scored off a
Cahill assist at 7:31. Sophomore midfielder Tom Rixey
(Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) cut the lead to 3-2
with a goal off an assist from sophomore attackman Dominic
Serio (Finksburg, MD/Mount St. Joseph) with 3:58 to go,
but Patrick Koehl netted an unassisted goal at
2:12 and McGrath scored as time expired to give the Bullets a 5-2
advantage at halftime.
Washington cut the lead to 5-3 early in the third
quarter as junior midfielder Doug Herdegen (Baltimore,
MD/Archbishop Curley) scored an unassisted goal. The
Bullets responded by scoring the next four goals to open up a 9-3
advantage. Danno Lynch scored with 8:17 on the
clock, McGrath scored with 4:45 to play, Chris
Fumai scored off a feed from Cahill 10 seconds later, and
Josh Reichert scored off a McGrath feed with 1:52
left. Serio stopped the run with a goal with 1:04 left, but
Matt Griffo won the ensuing face-off and found
Reichert for a goal 12 seconds later to give the Bullets a 10-4
lead through three quarters.
McGrath found Reichert for a goal with 9:04 left in
the fourth and J.C. Ward scored with 7:55
remaining to make it 12-4. Perlow scored Washington's final goal at
6:08, while Brody scored off a McGrath assist at 3:39 to provide
the final margin.
McGrath had a hand in six goals for the Bullets on
the day, totaling three goals and three assists. Reichert added
three goals, while Brody had two. Cahill netted three assists for
the Bullets. John LeClerc put up 17 saves for
Gettysburg in goal.
Perlow scored two goals to lead Washington, while
Serio had a goal and an assist. Freshman goalie Matt Miller
(Baldwin, MD/Calvert Hall) recorded 16 saves.
Gettysburg held a 46-36 advantage in shots in the
game.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00
p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
