Box Score 2 WC Tallies 19 Runs and 19 Hits in
Sweep
DOVER, DE -- Visiting Washington College swept a
non-conference softball doubleheader over its Delmarva rival Wesley
on Thursday afternoon at DuPont Softball Field. The Shorewomen won
game one, 11-2, and captured victory in game two, 8-0, in five
innings due to the eight-run rule. The Shorewomen improve to 10-12
on the season, while the Wolverines fall to 4-28.
In game one, the Shorewomen wasted little time
scoring as they plated two runs in the top of the first. Sophomore
Margaret
Rohde (Highland Lakes, NJ/Academy of Home Education)
and singled in sophomore Leigh
Carbutt (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) for the
games first run. Freshman Laura
Wagoner (Phoenixville, PA/Agnes Irwin School) drove in
sophomore Sally Snover
(Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) to make it 2-0 on a sacrifice
fly.
Carbutt drove in freshman Lindsey
Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) on an RBI single in
the top of the second to push the lead to 3-0. The visitors
extended the bulge to 4-0 on an RBI groundout by freshman
Shaelan Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen
Decatur) that chased in Snover in the top of the
fifth.
Washington busted the game open with a seven-run
seventh to lead 11-0. Wagoner tripled in Nottingham to make it 5-0.
Carbutt hit a two-run double that extended the lead to 7-0. It
became 9-0 when the next batter sophomore Jordan
Tryhubenko (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney) drove in two on
a single. Snover tallied an RBI to make it 10-0 and Wagoner
recorded the last RBI of the top half of the frame to give WC an
11-0 cushion. The Wolverines scored twice in the bottom half of the
seventh to provide the final margin.
For WC, Carbutt went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two
runs scored to pace the offense as the guests pounded out 12 hits
in the opener. Wagoner went 2-for-4 with three RBI and recorded her
first collegiate multi-hit game. Glascock scored two runs for the
Shorewomen. In the circle for Washington, freshman Brittany
Walter (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) got the win
and improves to 4-8. She tossed five shutout innings before giving
way to freshman Becca
Hoffman (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) who threw
the last two innings and did not give up an earned run.
For Wesley, Taylor Hendricks went
2-for-3 with a run scored. Pitching wise, Jenn
Post took the loss and falls to 0-8.
In the second game, Washington scored five runs in
the top of the first to assert control of the nightcap. Carbutt
scored the game's opening run on a error by the Wolverines. Snover
scored on another Wesley to make it 2-0. Freshman Kaitlin
Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) hit an RBI double to
push the lead to 3-0. Sophomore Kristine
Cunningham (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) closed out the
scoring in the frame with a two-run two-bagger down the left field
line.
The Shorewomen added three more runs in the fourth
to cap the scoring for the game and the doubleheader. Glascock
drove in two runs on a triple to give WC a 7-0 lead and she would
score on a sac fly off the bat of Carbutt for the game's final
run.
Cunningham and Rowan each went 2-for-2 in the
second game with Cunningham plating two runs and Rowan scoring
twice. Glascock also drove in two teammates for for the Shorewomen.
The Shorewomen had seven hits in game two. In the circle, sophomore
Meaghan
Kimme (Lumberton, NJ/Holy Cross) allowed just one hit
in four innings to get the win and is now 5-4. She struck out four
and did not walk a batter. Hoffman pitched the fifth and final
inning, retiring the side in order and recording one punch out.
Wesley's Tristan Burris had the Wolverines lone hit
with a two-out double in the bottom of the first. Hendrick pitched
game two, recorded the loss and falls to 3-8.
The Shorewomen return to the diamond on Saturday
with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference twinbill at Gettysburg.
