Kaski Scores Three Goals, Assists on Another in Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior midfielder Shane Kaski (Mosley, VA/Midlothian) scored three goals and assisted on another as host Washington College topped visiting Wesley College, 12-6, in non-conference men's lacrosse action this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. 

The Shoremen (2-2) raced out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and held a 5-1 advantage after Kaski scored with 10:49 left in the second quarter. The Wolverines (2-4)  closed to within two goals by halftime as Eric Crumbock scored with 3:49 left and assisted on an extra-man goal by Joe Trezza 45 seconds later.  

Washington broke the game open with a 5-0 third quarter during which the Shoremen held a commanding 17-3 advantage in shots. Sophomore attackman Bennett Cord (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) gave the Shoremen a 10-3 cushion when he scored off an assist from junior midfielder Dave Lundquist (West Chester, PA/Henderson) with 13 seconds left in the period.

Kaski was one of four Shoremen to score multiple goals in the game. Sophomore attackman Matt Lewis (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg Country School) had two goals and  one assist, while freshman midfielder Hunter Nowicki (Baltimore, MD/Franklin) and Cord had two goals each.  Sophomore attackman Glen Tompkins (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) had two assists for Washington. Junior goalie Peter Stewart (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) played the first 54:44 in goal for the Shoremen, making 10 saves and scooping up six ground balls. Sophomore defenseman Michael Pierandri (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) had a game-high three caused turnovers in the victory.

Crumbock led Wesley with three goals and two assists. Michael McQuarrie had a big game on face-offs, winning 16-of-21 and scooping up 14 ground balls. 

The Shoremen held a 47-37 advantage in shots in the game. Wesley turned the ball over 24 times and was just 12-of-18 on clears. Washington committed 17 turnovers - including just four after halftime - and was 24-for-28 on clears.

The 12 goals for the Shoremen in the game were their most since a 17-3 victory over New England College on March 17, 2009.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 1:00 p.m. home game against McDaniel.
