Box Score Kane Scores Goal, Assists on Another in Win
TOWSON, MD -- Senior defender Hillary Kane (Rhinebeck, NY/Millbrook School) scored one goal and assisted on another as visiting Washington College dropped host Goucher College, 5-0, in a non-conference field hockey game tonight in Towson, MD. The Shorewomen improved to 7-6 with the win, while the Gophers fell to 3-8 with the loss.
The Shorewomen dominated play in the first half, out-shooting the Gophers, 19-2. Junior midfielder/defender Heather Noto (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) provided Washington's only goal of the half, scoring her first collegiate goal after gathering a blocked ball 9:10 into the game. Goucher goalkeeper Emily Gill kept the score close by making 10 first-half saves.
Sophomore attack/midfielder Grace Phillips (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) pushed the lead to 2-0 by scoring on a scramble in front with 27:07 left in the game. Sophomore midfielder/defender Kate Duggan (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Academy of the New Church) then made it 3-0 with her first collegiate goal, off a direct penalty corner, with a pair of assists from sophomore attack Claire McAuliffe (Clarksville, MD/Glenelg Country School) and Kane with 22:58 to go.
Washington recorded all 15 second-half shots to finish with a 34-2 advantage for the game. The Shorewomen also had a 14-2 margin in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) needed to make just one save in the win. Gill finished with 19 saves for Goucher.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Dickinson.
