Shoremen Score Ten Times in First Quarter of 21-8 Win at McDaniel

Most Goals in a Game for Shoremen Since 2001

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Seventh-ranked Washington College scored 10 goals in the first quarter of a 21-8 win over host McDaniel College in the Centennial Conference men's lacrosse opener for both schools this afternoon in Westminster, Md. The Shoremen's (6-1 overall) 21 goals on the afternoon were their most in a single game since 21-4 win over Haverford on April 11, 2001. 

Junior attackman Stephen Luck (Catonsville, Md./Boys' Latin) and senior attackman Jim Cusick (Fallston, Md./Calvert Hall) each finished with four goals and one assist in the game for Washington and both had hat tricks by the end of the first quarter as the Shoremen held a 10-3 lead after 15 minutes of play. Washington went on to lead 14-3 at halftime and 18-4 after three quarters. The Shoremen outshot the Green Terror (3-5 overall), 36-9, in the first half an 58-35 for the game. 

Senior attackman JD Campbell (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) added three goals of his own for Washington, while senior midfielder Hunter Nowicki (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) had two goals and two assists. Junior midfielder Michael Trapp (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) scored one goal, handed out two assists, went 14-for-19 on face-offs, and scooped up seven ground balls. Junior attackman Sam Birnbaum (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollows Hills East), senior midfielder Kodie Englehart (Coronado, Calif./Coronado), and freshman attackman Stephen Goff (Prince Frederick, Md./Calverton School) each had one goal and one assist. In all, 14 different Shoremen tallied at least one goal or one assist in the game. Senior goalie Ted DiSalvo (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River) started the game for the Shoremen and made six saves while allowing four goals in 39:17 of playing time.

Timothy McNichol led McDaniel with three goals and two assists, while Jason Lawrence scored a pair of goals for the Green Terror.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
