Dudley Scores Twice in Win

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Sophomore midfielder Alli Dudley (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) scored the final two goals of the game as host Washington College defeated visiting Wesley College, 4-2, in a non-conference field hockey game this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen improved to 6-1 with the victory, surpassing their win total from all of last year in the process. Wesley slipped to 5-2 with the loss.

The Shorewomen scored on the first shot of the game as senior attack Grace Phillips (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) found the back of the cage just 3:05 into the game. The Wolverines evened the score with 19:39 to play on their first shot as Jessica Giaccone beat a defender in transition. Washington nearly took the lead at the end of the half, but a shot by sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Davis (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) was saved by Sarah Daniels and a rebound shot by sophomore forward Jennifer Tordella (New Castle, Del./William Penn) was stopped on a defensive save by Brooke Gannon with four seconds to go before Daniels cleared the ball out. Washington held a 10-2 advantage in shots in the first half.

The Shorewomen regained the lead just 56 seconds into the second half as  senior attack Jackie O'Connell (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) scored from just in front of the goal off a pass from Tordella. Wesley tied the game at 2-2 when Gannon scored on a penalty stroke with 25:52 to go, but Dudley put Washington back in front for good just 24 seconds later when she scored from the right of Daniels. Dudley added another goal, this one off a rebound, with 6:18 to play to provide the final margin.

The Shorewomen finished the game with a 21-7 advantage in shots and a 10-9 edge in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Sadie Robertson (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) made a pair of saves in the win for Washington. Sarah Daniels made 11 saves in the loss for Wesley.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Gettysburg.
