Kendall Nets Double-Double With 12 Points and 10 Rebounds While Tallying Career-High Five Steals

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Johns Hopkins scored the game's first 16 points and never trailed en route to a 67-51 victory over host Washington College on Wednesday night at the Cain Athletic Center in a Centennial Conference women's basketball contest.  The Blue Jays improve to 11-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while the Shorewomen drop to 5-11 and 1-8 respectively.

The Blue Jays scored the game's opening 16 points to take a 16-0 lead 6:45 into the game on a layup by Maggie Fruehan.  The Shorewomen would get onto the scoreboard with 13:04 left in the first half on a three-pointer by senior guard Jackie O'Connell (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area).  The Blue Jays would grab a 20-point lead at 23-3 with 11:42 remaining in the first half on a Katie Clark triple.  The Shorewomen would then mount a charge of 21-8 the rest of the half to cut the Johns Hopkins lead to 31-24.  A three-pointer by senior guard Emily Hubley (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) with 12 ticks left capped the scoring in the first half and trimmed the guests' lead to single digits.

Washington would cut the Johns Hopkins' lead to 40-36 with 14:46 remaining in the second half on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Ali Grundy (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga).  But that would be as close as Washington would get as the Blue Jays would push their lead to as many as 21 points at 63-42 with 6:03 left in the contest on a pair of Jessica Brown free throws.  The closest WC would come in the final 6:03 was 12 points at 63-51 with 3:05 left on a free throw by junior forward Carley Kendall (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area). 

Johns Hopkins got a game-best 25 points and team-high three steals from Beatriz Williams.  Clark added 12 points, while Haley Bush grabbed 10 rebounds to tie for game-best and led all players with two rejections.  Liz Tommasi had six assists to lead all players.  The Blue Jays shot 33% from the floor (21-for-64), 35% from three-point range (6-for-17) and 79% from the foul stripe (19-for-24).  The Blue Jays outrebounded the Shorewomen 54-35 in the game.  Johns Hopkins outscored WC in points in the paint (28-16), points off of turnovers (19-5), second chance points (7-5), transition points (10-4) and bench points (16-12). 

Kendall posted her second double-double of the year with 12 points and tied for contest-best in boards with 10 to go along with a game-high and career-topping five steals.  Hubley scored a team-high 17 points, while Grundy netted 10 points and a team-best five assists.  The Shorewomen shot 30% from the floor (17-for-57), 33% from three-point territory (7-for-21) and 67% at the free throw line (10-for-15). 

Johns Hopkins turned it over 12 times, while Washington committed 13 turnovers.

The Shorewomen hit the road on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip at Gettysburg in Centennial Conference action.
