Team Snaps 22-Game Conference Losing Streak

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College never trailed on its way to a 70-61 victory over visiting Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.  With the win the Shorewomen end a 22-game conference losing streak as it was the squad's first CC win since a 59-44 win over Ursinus on February 14, 2015.  It was also WC's first win over Gettysburg since a 58-50 victory on February 11, 2012 in Gettysburg, a span of eight games.

How It Happened
- Washington scored six of the game's first seven points to lead 6-1 with 5:29 left in first quarter on a Bridget McLaughlin jumper. 
- The Bullets answered with five points in a row to level the game at 6-6 with 3:54 to go in the first on a layup by Emma Dorshimer. 
- The Shorewomen would take the lead for good 18 seconds later on a three-pointer by Ali Grundy to give the hosts a 9-6 lead.  The triple would ignite a quarter closing 14-4 run as the Shorewomen took a 20-10 lead after one.  Grundy capped the scoring in the first on a three with eight ticks to go.
- Washington scored the opening eight points of the second quarter to take a 28-10 lead with 7:44 remaining on a Cassidy Quattro jumper in the paint.  The Quattro make capped a 22-4 run that spanned a 5:52 stretch of the first and second quarters.  WC would lead by as many as 18 points on two occasions in the second.
- Trailing 30-12, the Bullets closed out the second quarter with a 13-7 run to cut the Shorewomen's lead to 12 points at halftime, 37-25.  Kendra Meredith made a free throw with 46 seconds left in the second to cap the first half scoring.
- Gettysburg outscored Washington 16-11 in the third quarter to cut hosts' lead to 48-41 after three.  The Bullets got within six points at 45-39 with 1:12 remaining on a bunny by Ashley Gehrin.
- The visitors would trim the Washington lead to five points on four occasions in the fourth quarter, the last coming with 5:00 to go on an Emily Gibbons jumper that reduced the Shorewomen lead to 59-54.
- Washington, who outscored Gettysburg 22-20 in the fourth, answered with a 7-0 run to take a 66-54 lead with 2:28 remaining on a scoop hook shot by Grundy in the paint.  The run began on a Taylor Samuels lay-in with 4:38 remaining in the fourth.
- The closest the Bullets would get the rest of the way was seven points at 68-61 with 57 seconds remaining in the game on two Dorshimer free throws.

For The Shorewomen (2-4, 1-2)
- Grundy (20 points, six rebounds and two steals), Quattro (16 points), Caitlyn Clark (game-best 10 assists to set career-high and nine rebounds to set personal-best).
- Washington shot a season-high 47% from the field (29-for-62), 43% from three-point range (6-for-14), also a season-best and 60% from the foul line (6-for-10).
- Washington had 12 turnovers in the contest.
- The Shorewomen outscored the Bullets in bench points, 21-8, and points in the paint by a 30-26 margin.

For Gettysburg (3-2, 2-1)
- Gibbons (career-topping 22 rebounds and 13 points), Dorshimer (20 points), Meredith (12 points, eight boards and seven assists).
- The Bullets held a 45-40 advantage in rebounds in the game and totaled a 15-9 in second-chance points.
- Gettysburg shot 31% from the field (20-for-65), 11% from behind the arc (2-for-19) and 70% from foul line (19-for-27).
- The Bullets had 12 turnovers in the game.

Notes
- Washington notched its first 20-point first quarter since the advent of quarters for women's basketball in the 2015-16 season.
- The Shorewomen chalked up 25 assists in the win, the most since dishing out 25 helpers on November 26, 2013 against Bryn Mawr.
- Clark had the Shorewomen's first double-digit assist performance since Meghan Tait '12 had 10 helpers versus Swarthmore on December 7, 2011.
- The last time the Shorewomen won a home game over the Bullets was on January 7, 2012 in a 65-50 win.
