Garnet Get By Shoremen, 11-10, in Overtime

Barbieri Tallies Six Points in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Nathan Relich scored the game-winning goal 32 seconds into overtime as visiting Swarthmore College topped host Washington College, 11-10, in a Centennial Conference men's lacrosse game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

How It Happened
- The Garnet scored on their first two shots of the game as Matt Johnson scored off a Dylan Rittenhouse assist 52 seconds in and Cam Marsh found the back of the net with 10:58 to go in the first. The Shoremen tied things up before the end of the quarter as Tyler Powers scored off a Nick Boyles assist with 6:02 remaining and Tanner Barbieri scored off another Boyles pass with 4:59 on the clock.
- Swarthmore regained the lead with an extra-man goal by Marsh off a Braeden DeWan 33 seconds into the second quarter and then found Johnson for a goal with 9:23 on the clock to give the Garnet a 4-2 advantage. The Shoremen then scored the final three goals of the second half to take a 5-4 lead. Barbieri scored with 6:59 showing, Boyles found the back of the net with 4:44 left, and Barbieri found Charles Walker for a goal with 3:26 to play.
- The Shoremen's run continued into the second half as Barbieri scored off an assist from Kyle Gangemi - his first collegiate point - 10 seconds after the face-off. Swarthmore countered with a Relich goal off a Marsh assist with 11:01 left in the third during an extra-man situation and a Johnson goal off a DeWan assistat 7:39 to even the score at 6-6.
- Washington responded with 4:32 left in the third as Peter Jacobs scored off a Barbieri feed to give the Shoremen their final lead of the night at 7-6.
- Swarthmore then went on a 4-0 run. Will Black scored off a Griffin Johnston pass with 1:21 remaining in the third and Johnson scored off a Relich feed with 10 seconds left. Relich then scored off a Marsh pass with 11:27 left in the fourth and Rittenhouse had an unassisted tally with 8:13 remaining as the Garnet built a 10-7 advantage.
- The Shoremen rallied to tie the score late in regulation, scoring three times in 100 seconds. Walker scored with 4:20 left and Barbieri scored off a Trey Ritter assist just 10 seconds later. Boyles evened the scored off a Matty Allen assist with 2:40 left.
- Swarthmore won the opening face-off in overtime and called timeout with 3:43 left in the period. Relich took the ball from behind the goal out of the timeout and came around the left side of the net and scored to give the Garnet the win.

- Scorers: Barbieri (4 goals, 2 assists), Boyles (2 goals, 2 assists), Walker (2 goals), Powers (1 goal), Jacobs (1 goal), Allen (1 assist), Gangemi (1 assist), Ritter (1 assist)
- Goalie: Ben Flood (9 saves, 11 goals allowed, 60:00)
- William Rate IV went 7-for-10 on face-offs for the Shoremen.
- The Shoremen held a 41-31 advantage in shots in the game. 

For Swarthmore (9-5, 4-3 Centennial Conference)
- Scorers: Johnson (4 goals), Marsh (2 goals, 3 assists), Relich (3 goals, 1 assist), Rittenhouse (1 goal, 1 assist), DeWan (2 assists), Black (1 goal), Rittenhouse (1 assist)

Notes
- Swarthmore can clinch their first-ever berth in the four-team Centennial Conference Tournament with a win over rival Haverford Saturday in the Garnet's regular-season finale.

- The game against Gettysburg will be the Shoremen's Senior Day and regular-season finale. The Shoremen would need an upset of Gettysburg, a Haverford win over Swarthmore, and a Franklin & Marshall win over Dickinson Saturday in order to claim the final Centennial Conference Tournament berth.
