Hubert & Pant Lead Shorewomen at ITA Southeast Regional Championships

Doubles Tandem Reaches Final of Blue 2 Doubles

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Sophomore MP Hubert (Riviera, Texas/Incarnate Word Academy) and junior Kiran Pant (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) reached the final of Blue 2 Doubles to lead the Washington College women's tennis team at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Mary Washington, yesterday and today. Juniors Julie Lazer (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh School) and Rachel Martinez (Los Angeles, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) competed in the Championship Draws of both singles and doubles for the Shorewomen. 

Championship Draw Singles
- Lazer advanced to the second round, defeating Hannah Jabusch of Mary Washington, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, in the first round before falling to Swarthmore's Emma Kassan, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
- Martinez dropped her first round match, 6-4, 6-2, to Haverford's Emily Shutman. In the consolation bracket, she moved right into the second round due to an injury to her scheduled first consolation round opponent. In the second consolation round, Martinez lost to Carnegie Mellon's Vinaya Rao, 8-5.

Championship Draw Doubles
- Lazer and Martinez started things off in impressive fashion, blanking Swarthmore's Rachel Bronkema and Nicole Khorosh, 8-0, in the first round. They then dropped a hard-fought 8-6 decision to Carnegie Mellon's Cori Sidell and Nicholle Torres in the second round.

Elsewhere in Singles
- MP Hubert reached the semifinals of Blue 4 Singles. In the first round, she downed McDaniel's Madison Simmons, 6-3, 7-5. Next, she beat Thomas More's AnnaMarie Hetzer, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals. She dropped a close match in the semifinals, falling to Franklin & Marshall's Gavriel Rubenstein, 5-7, 6-2, 10-8.
- Kiran Pant reached the second round in Blue 6 Singles. She beat Randolph's Samantha Dickerson, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round and was eliminated by Haverford's Ali Morrow, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.
- Hayley Sanchez advanced to the second round in Blue 7 Singles. She won her first-ever collegiate match, 6-3, 6-1, against Aubree Johnson of Virginia Wesleyan in the first round. She then lost to Grove City's Rachel Ford, 6-0, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
- Virginia Giacardi bounced back from a first-round loss in Blue 5 Singles to post an 8-5 win over Shenandoah's Emma Crue in the consolation quarterfinals and an 8-2 victory against Sarah Snoddy of Hollins. The consolation final was not played due to time constraints.

Elsewhere in Doubles
- Hubert and Pant began their match to the Blue 2 Doubles final by blanking Goucher's Meera Balasubramani and Amber Penaloza, 8-0, in the first round and defeated Catholic's Erin Cole and Jenna Gietl, 8-5, in the quarterfinals. They then won their semifinal match, 8-6, against Bridgewater's Jamiah Lewis and Shannon Quinn. In the final, they fell to Ariel Danzinger and Caitlyn Sorelle of Ursinus, 8-3.
- After losing their first match, Boissonneault and Giacardi edged Savannah Bergen and Claire Bodine of St. Mary's, 9-8(3), in the consolation quarterfinals. The consolation semifinals and final were not played due to time constraints.
