Grundy Scores Team-High 24 Points For Third Straight Game of 20 or More Points

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College built a 13-point lead late in the third quarter and held off a rally by visiting Ursinus to come away with a 63-59 win on Tuesday night in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game at the Cain Athletic Center.  The Shorewomen improve to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the Centennial, while the Bears fall to 6-7 and 4-4 respectively.  Washington has now won four games in a row, the first time the team has done that during a single season since opening the 2012-13 season 4-0.

How It Happened
- The Bears came out strong by scoring 10 of the game's first 12 points to take a 10-2 lead with 6:01 to go in the first quarter on a Toni Suler jumper in the paint.
- Washington would counter with a 13-4 run in the final 6:01 of the quarter to take a 15-14 lead after one as Kristi Kozlowski canned a jumper from the right baseline with four seconds to go to put the Shorewomen ahead.  During the run, Kozlowski scored six of her eight points in the contest.
- After the Bears scored the opening bucket of the second quarter on a lay-in by Lydia Konstanzer to put the visitors back up 16-15, the Shorewomen went on an 11-3 tear to take a 26-18 lead with 4:30 left in the second on a three-pointer by Jordan Weir.
- Ursinus would answer right back with nine unanswered points to grab a 27-26 lead with 1:41 remaining in the second on a Brielle Clarke bunny.
- However, the Shorewomen scored five of the final six points of the second to take a 31-28 lead into halftime.  Ali Grundy, who scored all five of WC's points in the last 1:41, gave Washington the lead for good on a layup with 1:33 to go.
- Leading 33-32 with 9:01 left in the third quarter, Washington went on a 14-2 spurt to grab its largest cushion of the game of 13 points at 47-34 with 3:49 remaining on a Kat Moore jumper in the paint.  The Shorewomen took a 50-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Trailing 57-45 with 5:50 left in the game following a Kozlowski basket, the Bears went on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 57-55 on a Suler free throw.
- Caitlyn Clark would score Washington's first point since the 5:50 mark of the fourth on a free throw with 59 ticks left to make it 58-55.
- On Ursinus' next possession, the Bears turned the ball over and then fouled Grundy.  Grundy went to the line and canned both to make it 60-55 with 46 ticks left.
- Konstanzer scored a layup on a second chance opportunity for the Bears to trim the Shorewomen's lead back to three at 60-57 with 26 seconds left.
- Grundy was fouled on the inbounds pass and sank two from the line to put Washington back ahead five, 62-57, with 24 seconds remaining.
- Cassidy Quattro ended Ursinus' final chance as she blocked a Suler shot with nine seconds left and Clark grabbed the rebound.  She made one from the line to give WC a six-point lead of 63-57 with six seconds left.  Rachel Guy capped the scoring with a fast-break layup to beat the buzzer.

For The Shorewomen (7-5, 4-3 CC)
- Grundy (24 points to lead team, 8-for-14 from the field, 4-for-6 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the foul line), Quattro (game-best four blocks and squad-high five rebounds), Bridget McLaughlin (team-high three assists), Clark (team-best two steals).
- The hosts shot 47% (25-for-53) from the floor, 36% (5-for-14) from beyond the arc and 67% (8-for-12) from the free throw stripe.
- Washington outscored Ursinus in points off of turnovers, 24-6, and bench points by a 23-10 count.
- The Shorewomen turned it over just 12 times.

For Ursinus (6-7, 4-4 CC)
- Konstanzer (double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds which were both game-bests), Suler (15 points and 10 boards for double-double to go along with team-best two blocks), Libby Lannon (game-bests of five assists and three steals).
-The Bears shot 39% (23-for-59) from the floor, 30% (3-for-10) from three-point range and 59% (10-for-17) from the foul line.
- Ursinus outscored Washington in points in the paint, 38-18, and in second chance points, 9-4.
- The Bears held a 44-24 advantage in rebounds in the games, but coughed the ball up 17 times.

Notes
- Grundy has now scored 20 or more points in three straight games for the first time in her career.  She had 24 tonight, a personal-high 25 this past Saturday at Muhlenberg and 20 at Immaculata on December 19, 2016.
- Grundy is the first Shorewoman to score 20 or more in three straight games since Karen Simos '04 achieved the feat in a three-day span during the 2002-03 season.  Simos scored 31 versus Haverford (2/19/03), 21 against Bryn Mawr (2/20/03) and 23 at Muhlenberg (2/21/03).
- The Shorewomen have now won six of the past seven over the Bears on the Cain Athletic Center court.  - Washington's prior four-game winning streak in a season was the start of the 2012-13 season and that was part of a two-season, nine-game winning streak that started with victories in the final five games of the 2011-12 season.
- Tonight matched up the reigning Centennial Conference Co-Players of the Week as Grundy for Washington and Konstanzer for Ursinus were named the co-players of the week yesterday.
