Junior Goalie Makes Career-Best 22 Saves in Victory

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Junior goalie Ben Flood (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) made a career-high 22 saves to lead the host Washington College men's lacrosse team to an 11-5 Centennial Conference men's lacrosse victory over visiting McDaniel College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

How It Happened
- The Shoremen scored just 1:46 into the game as Kevin Trapp scored off a feed from Tanner Barbieri. Cooper Sloan quickly upped the lead to 2-0 with a goal with 11:52 remaining in the first quarter. Barbieri then assisted on a goal by Tyler Powers with 7:56 on the clock to make it 3-0.
- Nick Boyles fired in the Shoremen's fourth goal off an assist from Charles Walker with 9:20 to go in the second. Barbieri ran the lead to 5-0 with a goal off an assist from Peter Jacobs on a quick restart with 6:41 remaining before halftime. Trapp cashed in a on man-up goal off a Walker assist to make it a half-dozen goals for the Shoremen with 5:13 left in the period. Jacobs then scored off a Powers assist with 1:38 showing for a 7-0 advantage.
- McDaniel finally got on the board when Carson Marshall scored off a Dylan Chaikin assist with 9:18 left in the third quarter after Flood had made 13 saves without allowing a goal. Timothy McNichol score the only other goal of the quarter for the Green Terror, with 15.6 seconds to go, to trim the Shoremen's lead to 7-2.
- The Green Terror opened the fourth quarter with Quinn Lykens scoring an extra-man goal off an assist from Jackson Reilly with 14:07 on the clock. The Shoremen countered with a goal by Barbieri off a Jacobs assist with 9:43 left. Frankie Kratovil narrowed the lead to 8-4 with a goal with 8:00 to go. Washington answered when Trapp scored off a Jacobs assist with 6:36 left. Jacobs then scored off a Powers feed with 4:32 left to push the margin to 10-4. Chaikin got a goal back for the Green Terror with 3:12 to go off a Sam Mutz pass. Trey Ritter scored an extra-man goal for the Shoremen off a Trapp pass with 47.3 seconds left to round out the scoring. 

For the Shoremen (6-4, 1-2 Centennial Conference)
- Scoring: Jacobs (career-high 2 goals, career-high 3 assists for a career-best 5 points); Trapp (3 goals, assist); Barbieri (2 goals, 2 assists); Powers (goal, 2 assists)
- In Goal: Flood (22 saves, 5 goals allowed, 58:54); Parker Hornstein (0 saves, 0 goals allowed, 1:06)
- Carson Metzker went 15-for-19 on face-offs for the Shoremen in the win.

For McDaniel (5-6, 0-3 Centennial Conference)
- Scoring: Chaikin (goal, assist)
- In Goal: Bryan Ruygrok (12 saves, 11 goals allowed, 60:00)
- Will Kroppe racked up seven caused turnovers and 11 ground balls for McDaniel.
- McDaniel held a 44-30 advantage in shots and turned the ball over 17 times to Washington's 28. 

Notes
- Flood was named the Goose Nation TV Shoremen Player of the Game on the web cast of the game.
- Flood's 22-save performance was the first since Peter Stewart made 22 in a 13-8 win at Muhlenberg in 2012. The last Shoremen goalie to make more than 22 was Gordon Cohen, who made 24 in a 9-8 triple-overtime win over Dickinson in 2009.
