Bennett, Predale Combine For No Hitter In Game One; Game Two Stopped Due To Weather

DOVER, Del. — The visiting Washington College softball team started their season by scoring their most runs in a game in 16 years against host Wesley in a non-conference softball doubleheader played today at DuPont Field in Dover, Delaware. The Shorewomen won that game 19-0 after five innings due to the eight run rule, while the second game between the two was halted due to weather with Wesley ahead 7-1 after two innings.

Washington College 19, Wesley 0 (5 innings; Game One)

How It Happened
- Washington loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning and would go on to score five runs. Maddie Bennett was hit by a pitch, forcing in Alyssa Vieira for the first run. Chrissy Segrest followed with a single to center field, bringing home Grace Moery. Bennett would then score on a wild pitch to set the score at 3-0. Segrest scored on a single to third base from Alli Saul, and Leah Stokes capped the inning with a single through the left side, bringing home Megan Robbins to give the Shorewomen a 5-0 lead.
- Washington added another run in the top of the second when Segrest reached on an error, with Moery scoring on the play.
- The Shorewomen put the game out of reach with eight runs in the top of the fourth. Segrest started the scoring in the inning with a single to left field, bringing in Moery. Robbins followed with a double to right center, chasing home Bennett and Cristen Quillen. The lead reached 10-0 when Saul singled to left field, bringing home Segrest.
- Stokes cleared the bases with a single and a fielding error, bringing in Saul, Robbins, and Jenna Gordon, and Stokes would cap the scoring in the inning by scoring on a wild pitch to set the score at 14-0.
- Five more runs crossed in the top of the fifth. A single to left field from Regan Horan brought home Caroline Braungard and pushed the lead to 15-0. Vieira drove home the first run of her career with a single up the middle, scoring Brittany Walker. Horan would score on a groundout off the bat of Moery, and Rachel DiMarcello capped the scoring with a double to left field, bringing home Vieira and Amelia Mazza to make it a 19-0 game.

For the Shorewomen (1-0)
- Hitting: Segrest (2-for-3, three RBI's, two runs), DiMarcello (2-for-3, double, two RBI's), Saul (2-for-3, two RBI's, run, stolen base), Robbins (double, two RBI's, two runs), Stokes (2-for-4, two RBI's, run), Moery (2-for-4, double, RBI, walk, three runs), Vieira (2-for-5, RBI, two runs), Bennett (hit, RBI, two runs), Horan (hit, RBI, run), Mazza (hit, run), Walker (hit, run), Quillen (hit, run), Gordon (run), Braungard (run).
- Pitching: Bennett (win, 1-0, four innings, zero hits, zero runs, two walks, four strikeouts), Cassidy Predale (one inning, zero hits, zero runs, zero walks, two strikeouts).
- The Shorewomen had 18 hits in the win, drew one walk, and left six runners on base.
- Washington played a clean defensive game, committing zero errors.

For Wesley (0-2)
- Hitting: Ashley Royer (walk), Amanda Curry (walk), Brooke Retkowski (stolen base).
- Pitching: Abbey Mayse (loss, 0-2, five innings, 18 hits, 19 runs, 13 earned runs, one walk, seven strikeouts).
- The Wolverines were no hit in the loss, drew two walks, and left three runners on base.
- Wesley committed four errors, leading to six unearned Shorewomen runs.

Notes
- The 19 runs scored by Washington are the most runs they have scored in a game since a 20-4 win over Marywood on March 13th, 2003.
- The combined no hitter by Bennett and Predale is the first no hitter for Washington since Bennett threw a complete game no hitter in a 5-0 win at Swarthmore on April 21st, 2016.
