Women's Basketball Defeated by Johns Hopkins, 56-41

Chestertown, MD – The Washington College women's basketball team dropped their first Centennial Conference contest of the season as they were defeated by the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 56-41, on Thursday evening on Finnegan Court. The Shorewomen, who had won four straight contests, fell to 6-2 (3-1 C.C) while the Blue Jays improve to 5-2 (2-1 C.C).

How It Happened
- Junior guard Andrea Prestianne converted a driving layup to give the Shorewomen their first lead of the contest, 6-4, with 6:10 remaining in the opening quarter.
- The hosts still led 10-9 after freshman guard Karry Kelliher swished a right-corner jumper with just under a minute left in the quarter. 
- Freshman guard Natalie Mann converted a pair from the line to give the visitors an 11-10 edge after the opening quarter.
- The Shorewomen were within 17-14 after sophomore forward Serena Pluta drained a jumper from the left-elbow with 5:25 left in the stanza.
- Hopkins responded with a 10-2 spurt to take their largest lead of the half at 27-16. Mann hit a pair of treys during the burst.
- The visitors settled for a 29-20 halftime edge.
- The Blue Jays then scored the first four points of the third quarter to take a 33-20 advantage at the 7:00 mark.
- Prestianne and junior guard Joy Sanders converted a pair of free throws on consecutive possessions to cut the deficit to 33-24 at the 5:55 mark.
- Hopkins answered with ten consecutive points to take their largest lead of the game at 43-24 with 3:11 left. Senior guard Diarra Oden scored the first seven points during the stretch and junior guard Emily Howie finished things off with a trifecta from the top of the circle.
- Washington was able to close within 44-30 after a 6-1 run late in the third quarter. Junior forward Lizzie Hudock hit a pair from the line and then scored inside. Senior guard Crystal Jones finished the burst with a right-corner jumper with 1:30 left in the quarter.
- The Shorewomen scored six straight points to inch closer. Four free throws by Hudock and senior guard Madeline Williams and a jump hook by Jones brought the Maroon and White within just 46-36 with 6:20 left in the contest. 
- The visitors, however, put the game away with a 7-1 run to grab a 53-37 lead with just a minute remaining and went on to the victory.

For the Shorewomen
- Prestianne and Kelliher (career-high) led the way with eight points apiece. Prestianne added five boards. Kelliher went 6-for-6 from the charity-stripe.
- Pluta grabbed seven rebounds to tie for the game-high.
- The Shorewomen converted 11-of-44 field goal attempts (25 percent), missed all 11 of their attempts from long-distance, and were a terrific 19-of-22 (86.4 percent) from the line.

For the Blue Jays
- Oden scored a game-high 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting in 35 minutes of action.
- Howie added nine points and a game-high six assists.
- Freshman Forward Greta Miller chipped in with a game-high four steals and tied for the game-high with seven caroms.
- The visitors made just 17-of-53 field goal attempts (32.1 percent), hit 6-of-23 treys (26.1 percent) and were 16-for-23 (69.6 percent) from the line.
- The Blue Jays outrebounded the Shorewomen by a 39-33 count and had 16 offensive boards.
- The visitors outscored the hosts by a 19-6 margin in points off turnovers.

Notes
-Johns Hopkins is the first Centennial team to eclipse 50 points against the Shorewomen this season.
