Jones Nets Season-High 17 but Shorewomen Fall, 62-53 at Gettysburg

Gettysburg, PA – The Washington College women's basketball team fought the whole way but were defeated by the Gettysburg Bullets, 62-53, in a Centennial conference contest on Saturday at Bream Gym. The Shorewomen fall to 6-3 (3-2 C.C.) while the first-place Bullets improve to 6-1 (4-0 C.C).

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen jumped out to an 11-5 advantage after the first 3:30 of the contest. Junior guard Andrea Prestianne and junior forward Lizzie Hudock combined for nine points to open the game. A three-pointer by Prestianne from the top of the circle capped the run. 
- The Bullets went on a 10-2 spurt to take a 15-13 edge after a layup by senior forward Mackenzie Tinner with 3:03 remaining in the period.
- Washington College took their final lead of the contest, 16-15, after senior guard Crystal Jones found Hudock underneath for a layup with 1:45 left in the opening quarter.
- The hosts closed out the quarter with five straight points to take a 20-16 lead into the second period 
- Gettysburg extended their lead to a high of eight points at 28-20 as they outscored the visitors by an 8-4 count to open the second stanza. The Bullets converted on 6-of-7 free throws during the stretch.
- The Shorewomen inched closer just before halftime, 30-27, as senior guard Madeline Williams hit a pair from the stripe and then swished a left-wing triple with 2:07 left.
- The hosts settled for a 33-29 halftime lead as junior guard Joy Sanders converted a driving layup for the Shorewomen with under a minute to play.
- Jones drilled a trey for the first bucket of the second half to bring the visitors within 33-32 at the 8:57 mark.
- Gettysburg responded with a 7-1 spurt to extend their lead to 40-34 with 3:17 left in the third quarter. Tinner hit a pair from the line to cap the stretch.
- Washington trimmed the deficit to 41-38 after three quarters as freshman guard Karry Kelliher closed out the scoring with two free throws.
- The Shorewomen were still within five, 45-40, after Jones hit a turnaround jumper with 7:40 left in the contest. However, the hosts scored the next five points to take their largest lead of the game at 50-40 after a left-wing trifecta by senior guard Christina Richson with seven minutes left.
- Washington made one final push as Prestianne came up with a strip steal and went coast-to-coast for a layup to bring the visitors within 54-48 at the 2:50 mark.
- Jones then delivered a jumper in the paint to make it 55-50 with 2:20 left but the Shorewomen went cold and Gettysburg put the game out of reach by going 7-of-11 from the line to finish the contest.

For the Shorewomen
- Jones scored a season-high 17 points on 6-og-20 shooting and also added seven boards.
- Hudock and Prestianne ( 6 rebounds, 2 steals) were also in double-figures with 10 points apiece.
- Washington made 19-of-62 field goal attempts (30.6 percent), went 4-for-14 from long distance (28.6 percent) and converted 11-of-18 from the line (61.1 percent)

For the Bullets
- Richson scored a game-high 22 points on 5-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-10 from behind the arc. She also tied for the game-high with eight boards and added four assists and three steals.
- Tinenr contributed 13 points and seven rebounds before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.
- Gettysburg went 15-of-61 from the floor (24.6 percent), made 4-of-21 from distance (19.0 percent) and were 28-of-43 from the line (65.1 percent).

Notes
- The Bullets outscored the Shorewomen by 17 points from the foul line as that was the difference in the game.
- Hudock has hit double-digits in scoring in two of her last three contests.
- Prestianne has reached double-figures in scoring in nine out of ten contests this season.
- Gettysburg is the first team to score 60 or more points against the Shorewomen this season.
