Box Score Highlights
Gettysburg, Pa. – Washington College's historic women's basketball season came to an end as the No. 5 seeded Shorewomen fell to the top-seeded Gettysburg Bullets, 64-54, Friday evening in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament at Bream Gymnasium. Washington won a program-record 17 games and finished 17-10 overall while the hosts improve to 23-3.
How It Happened
- The Shorewomen led 4-3 early as junior forward Serena Pluta scored the first four points for the Maroon & White on two free throws and a layup in the post.
- The hosts went on an 8-3 run behind five points by senior guard Carly Rice to grab an 11-7 advantage at the 5:02 mark. Washington senior guard Crystal Jones hit a triple from the top of the circle during the stretch.
- Junior guard Andrea Prestianne drilled a trifecta from the top of the circle to cut the deficit to 11-10 at the 4:45 mark, however, the hosts went on a 7-0 spurt to extend their lead to 18-10 with 2:23 left in the first quarter.
- Trailing 19-12 with 1:16 left in the stanza, the visitors went on an 8-2 burst to close within 21-20 with 9:05 left in the second quarter. Jones hit a trey from the right-corner, junior forward Lizzie Hudock finished a layup, and Jones dialed up another long-distance three from the left-wing.
- The Shorewomen were still within a point after junior guard Joy Sanders hit one of two from the foul line with three minutes left but that was as close as they would get for the remainder of the contest.
-Freshman forward Delaney Donohoe converted four straight free throws to make it 35-30 with 1:57 remaining in the half. Hudock answered with two free throws but sophomore guard Caitlyn Priore stripped Hudock for a steal and layup and then freshman guard Mackenzie Szlosek made a free throw to give the Bullets a 33-27 halftime advantage.
- Rice scored inside to give Gettysburg a 35-27 lead on the first possession of the third quarter.
- Prestianne drained a long 3-pointer from the top of the circle to bring the Shorewomen within 36-32 at the 7:40 mark before senior forward Mackenzie Tinner scored in the paint.
-Freshman forward Kiersten Rose answered with a follow-up layup to inch Washington within 38-34 at the 6:10 mark but that was as close as they would get for the remainder of the contest.
-Senior guard Christina Richson answered with a trifecta from the left wing and then Rice and Donohoe followed with two-point field goals to widen the lead to 45-34 with 4:40 left in the third quarter.
- The Bullets settled for a 52-41 lead after three quarter as Pluta was able to score on a putback layup just before the buzzer.
-Pluta connected on a long jumper from the right-corner with 5:35 remaining in the contest to make it 55-47 but Donohoe answered with a conventional three-point play after completing a reverse layup and Washington was unable to close the gap.
For the Shorewomen
- Pluta paced the Shorewomen with 14 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds Jones (12 points) and Prestianne (10 points) were also in double-figures.
- The Shorewomen shot 28.1 percent overall (18-for-64), went 6-for-16 (37.5 percent) from long-distance, and made 12-of-16 (75 percent) from the line.
For the Bullets
- Rice scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting.
- Donohoe contributed 17 points and Tinner grabbed a team-high 13 boards.
- Gettysburg shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from floor overall, made just 3-of-13 (23.1 percent) of their treys and were 19-of-24 (79.2 percent) from the line.
