Box Score Ivatts and McFalls Both Score Twice and Hand Out Two Helpers
ASHLAND, Va. – Host Randolph-Macon got five goals and six points from Jack Averna to record a 12-8 over visiting Washington College in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Friday night at Nunnally Field. The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Shoremen drop to 0-3.

How It Happened
- Washington scored the game's opening goal with 3:21 into the game as Brady McFalls scored on a pass from Trevor Ivatts.
- Ryan Pritchard would tie it up at 1-1 following a turnover as he scored unassisted with 7:55 to go in the opening quarter. Just 62 seconds later Averna gave the Yellow Jackets the lead for the rest of the contest with Brandon Smith notching the assist.
- After Derek Marsilio made it 3-1 with 3:21 left in the first quarter unassisted, Randolph-Macon scored twice in 13 seconds to push the lead to 5-1 with 1:33 remaining on an Averna score from Andrew Tiffey. Tiffey assisted on Brandon Smith's score 13 ticks earlier with 1:46 left in the first.
- The Shoremen would score the first three goals of the second quarter to cut the lead to 5-4 with 8:33 on a man-up goal by McFalls from Ben Dickinson. The McFalls goal capped a three goal run in a span of 2:08 and for Dickinson it was his first career assist. Ivatts began the run from Caden Hallinan with 10:41 left in the second and 41 seconds later the same duo got the goal and helper.
- Marsilio would end the run with 7:17 left to give the hosts a 6-4 advantage and that would be the halftime score.
- Averna opened the third quarter scoring to give the hosts a 7-4 edge 94 seconds in before WC trimmed it to 7-5 with 9:57 to go on a Kain Domenech score from McFalls.
- Tiffey recorded his third assist of the game as he found Jack Smith to give Randolph-Macon an 8-5 lead with 6:54 left in the third and Averna gave the hosts a four-goal cushion heading into the fourth on a score with 17 seconds left in the third from Marsilio.
- Randolph-Macon and Washington both scored three times in the fourth to provide the final margin.
For The Shoremen (0-3)
- Scoring: Ivatts and McFalls (two goals and two assists), Ewan Temple (two goals), Caden Hallinan (two assists)
- In Goal: Ryan Leahy (60:00, 12 goals allowed, 10 saves)
- Tyler Bishop (career-best four caused turnovers) and Kyle Gittelman (seven ground balls)
- Gabe Velasquez went 8-for-16 in face-offs.
- Washington was 18-for-22 in clears in the contest and was 1-for-2 on the man-up.
- Washington had 18 turnovers, while causing nine Randolph-Macon turnovers and held a 42-31 advantage in ground balls.
For Randolph-Macon (3-2)
- Scoring: Averna (five goals and six points), Marsilio (two goals and one assist), Tiffey (three assists), Jack Smith (two goals), Brandon Smith (one goal and one assist; four ground balls)
- In Goal: Gage Turner (60:00, eight goals allowed, 14 saves)
- JD Spotts won 14-of-23 face-offs in the contest.
- The Yellow Jackets were 18-for-22 in clears, 0-for-2 in man-up situations and turned it over 19 times, while notching six caused turnovers.
- Randolph-Macon held a 29-27 advantage in ground balls.
Notes
- It was the third all-time meeting between the two schools and the first at Randolph-Macon. The 1930 and 2021 meetings took place at Washington College.
- McFalls had his first career multi-assist game.
