Men's Lacrosse Defeated By Ithaca 14-10 Friday Night

Box Score Chestertown, MD. – The Shoremen fell to the Bombers 14-10 Friday night at home. The Shoremen outshot Ithaca 46-38 but couldn't get enough past Cole Gorrigan, former Shoremen, in goal.

How It Happened
  • Cam Carrigan had the first goal of the game in the 10th minute of play putting Washington up 1-0. The second goal for the Shoremen came one minute and six seconds later by Nicky Bond
  • The Bombers' first goal came within the fourth minute by John Sramac and after a ground ball picked up by Ithaca, Jack Pastore was able to put one in the net tying the game 2-2. Ithaca scored four goals in five minutes to open up their second quarter run, they scored six total goals in the second to put them up 8-2 heading into half. 
  • Ithaca's Kyle Procor came out of halftime and scored within twenty four seconds thanks to an assist by Jared Sedlock. One minute later Michael Gillam put one in the net for the Bombers increasing their lead 10-2.
  • The Shoremen were finally able to put another goal on the board when they were a man up. Grant Matthews scored off an assist by Ben Dickinson. Cory Morgan scored forty seconds later to bring the Shoremen within six. The Shoremen had four more shots before their next goal by Luke Brennan in the ninth minute. Another forty seconds went by and Morgan scored yet again lessening the lead to four. 
  • Ithaca was able to stop the Shoremen's scoring run in the sixth minute of the third period as Pastore assisted Graham Brady.
  • Washington had a two man advantage within the fifth minute of the third and Parker Barta was able to score off an assist by Trevor Ivatts. The Shoremen still trailed 11-7.
  • Connor Garrison had the first goal of the fourth quarter for the Shoremen and not soon after, a score from Dickinson brought them within two. The Shoremen did not score again until a Matthews goal 2:05 seconds left in the game. Their efforts were left short as the Shoremen fell to the Bombers 14-10.
For The Shoremen (1-5)
  • The Shoremen tallied 31 ground balls to Itahaca's 19. 
  • Four Shoremen recorded four points each. Morgan and Matthews both tallied two goals a piece. 

For Ithaca (5-2)
  • Cole Garrigan held his own against his former team tallying 19 saves. 
  • Stout and Niebuhr led the Bombers with three goals each. Stout led the team with four points adding in one assist to his goals. 

Notes
  • The Shoremen are 4-1 against Ithaca historically and are currently on a four game win streak. The last matchup in 1989 favored the Shoremen 16-2. 
  • Gabe Velasquez was named the Shoremen Player of the Game.
