Shoremen Outlasted By Ranked Swarthmore 18-7

Box Score Chestertown, MD – Shoremen downed by #11 Swarthmore in a home conference matchup Wednesday Night.

How It Happened
  • Swarthmore was up 7-0 until the eighth minute in the third quarter where Ben Dickinson scored a man up goal assisted by Cory Morgan to put the Shoremen on the board. 
  • The Garnet would score three more times until Luke Brennan scored back to back goals late in the third to lessen the score 10-3. 
  • Swarthmore scored one minute later but Trevor Ivatts had an answer when he put a shot in the back of the net assisted by Brennan. The Shoremen still trailed 11-4.
  • The next Shoremen goal came unassisted by Grant Matthews in the tenth minute of the fourth quarter. Reeve Hargrave also scored unassisted three minutes later to lessen the Garnet lead to 11. 
  • The last goal for the Shoremen was scored with one minute left in the fourth by Jimmy Gallo thanks to an assist by Luke Phillips. The Shoremen ended the night trailing the Garnet 18-7. 

For The Shoremen (3-9)
Gabe Velasquez led the Shoremen and the Garnetwith nine ground balls. 
Three Shoremen tallied caused turnovers against Swarthmore.

For Swarthmore (10-1)
Three Garnet netted three goals in Wednesday's contest.
C. Strauch and V. Mabbs led both teams with five points each.

Notes
The Shoremen captured only their sixth loss against Swarthmore. The Shoremen are currently 25-6 when they face the Garnet.
Their last loss to the Garnet came last year as Swarthmore scored the winning goal in overtime to down the Shoremen 14-13.
