Sally O'Donnell Scores Career-High 27 Points

MAHWAH, NJ – Sophomore guard/forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) netted her second double-double of the season with a career-high 27 points and tied her career-best in rebounds with 12 as visiting Washington College beat host Ramapo College, 70-62, on Saturday afternoon at the Bradley Center in non-conference women's basketball action. The Shorewomen are now 4-5 on the season, while the Roadrunners fall to 4-4.

Ramapo jumped out to an 11-6 lead with 11:38 left in the first half following a second chance hoop by Faith Flannery. Washington would answer with a 17-6 run over the next 5:56 to put WC up 23-17. The Shorewomen would tie the game at 13-13 with 9:44 to go in the first half on a pair of free throws by Sally O'Donnell. After Ramapo regain the lead at 15-13 on a jumper by Stephanie Cannizzaro, Washington would take the lead at 16-15 on a three-pointer by Sally O'Donnell with 7:56 to go in the opening 20 minutes. Senior guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) concluded the 17-6 run when she canned a trifecta with 5:42 to go in the opening half to put the guests up 23-17. The Roadrunners would level the game at 25-25 on a Mallory Cornett jumper with 3:17 to go in the first half to close out an 8-2 run by the hosts. Freshman guard Maggie King (Kensington, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) put the Shorewomen up for good at 28-25 when she drained a triple with 2:45 to go in the half. Washington would take a 31-29 lead into the locker room.

Freshman center Erin Kile (Benton, PA/Benton) scored the first five points of the second half to put the Shorewomen up 36-29 with 16:28 to go in the contest. After a Danielle Beam bucket cut the Washington lead to 36-33 with 14:13 left in the second, WC countered with a 13-5 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 49-38 with 10:23 left on a three-pointer by Sally O'Donnell. During the run, Sally O'Donnell scored six points, the last six, and senior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) added five points, including the first hoop to start the run on a jumper. The closest the Roadrunners would get the rest of the way was six points, which they did on four occasions. The last time Ramapo got within six points was at 66-60 with 26 seconds left in the game on a Meghan Reilly basket. Four free throws by the Shorewomen and one hoop by the Roadrunners would provide the final margin at 70-62.

Jane O'Donnell added 19 points for Washington in the win, while sophomore guard Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds to tie Sally O'Donnell for the game-high. Washington shot just 33% in the game, but were 46% (14-for-30) from three-point range. Sally O'Donnell hit seven three-pointers, Jane O'Donnell connected on five triples and Jamrogowicz and King netted one trifeca apiece. The Shorwomen hit 18-for-20 from the free throw line for a 90% clip.

Cannizzaro led the Roadrunners with 19 points, while Reilly added 16 points. Reilly and Beam each totaled seven rebounds to pace Ramapo on the boards. Brittany Hoffman had three steals to lead all players. The Roadrunners shot 39% from the floor in the game and missed all five of their three-point tries. Ramapo was just 63% from the charity stripe, going 12-for-19.

Ramapo held a slight edge on the boards by a 42-41 margin and had only 16 turnovers to 21 for Washington. Ramapo held a 12-5 edge in second chance points and both squads scored 15 points off turnovers.

This was the second meeting between the institutions, with the Shorewomen now leading the all-time series 2-0. WC bested the Roadrunners in the first contest, 56-50, on November 22, 1996.

The Shorewomen return to action next Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game against visiting Salisbury.
