Box Score Herdegen Scores Twice in Loss
LEXINGTON, VA -- Tenth-ranked host Washington and
Lee scored the final four goals of the first half and the first two
of the second en route to a 9-5 win over visiting Washington
College in a non-conference men's lacrosse game this afternoon in
Lexington, VA. The Generals improved to 5-0 with the win, while the
Shoremen fell to 2-1 with the loss.
W&L took a 1-0 lead when Will
Keigler scored off an assist from Drew
Koeneman with 3:28 left in the first quarter. That goal
was the only score of the first quarter. Koeneman made it 2-0 with
a goal 54 seconds into the second quarter. Senior attackman
Brendan O'Leary (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) got the
Shoremen on the board with a goal with 9:14 left in the second, but
the Generals answered with a goal by Mark
Wachtmeister with 6:46 left to make it 3-1 an scored three
more times before the end of the first half to build a 6-1 cushion
at the intermission.
The Generals scored the first two goals of the
third quarter before WC freshman midfielder Bennett Cord
(Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) broke the six-goal run
with a a goal off an assist from sophomore attackman Billy
Stafford (White Hall, MD/Hereford) with 10:38 remaining in
the third.
Goals by WC junior attackman Shane Kaski
(Richmond, VA/Midlothian) and junior midfielder
Doug Herdegen (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley),
both off assists from freshman midfielder Patrick Coyle
(Reisterstown, MD/Calvert Hall), trimmed the margin to 8-4
with 11:50 remaining in the contest. Herdegen scored again with
7:12 to go to get the Shoremen to within three goals at 8-5.
W&L's Mac Means ended the Shoremen's rally
with a goal with 2:58 remaining to make it 9-5.
Koeneman scored two goals and had one assist for
W&L in the win, while Means and Max Mancuso
each scored two goals. Herdegen led the Shoremen with two goals.
Each team recorded 29 shots in the game.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 1:00
p.m. home game against Hampden-Sydney.
