Box Score

Fitzgerald Totals 15 Points and Nine Rebounds

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Host Washington College held visiting Bryn Mawr College to just two points in the first half as the Shorewomen beat the Owls, 67-26, on Thursday night at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.  The Shorewomen, who have won three of their past four, are now 6-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play, while the Owls drop to 0-15 and 0-12 respectively.

The two points allowed ties them for second in fewest points allowed in a half in the history of the Centennial Conference and sets the school record for fewest points allowed in a half.  Last season Dickinson held Bryn Mawr to two points on January 9, 2010.  Muhlenberg shut out Bryn Mawr in the first half on January 22, 2001.

The Shorewomen scored the first 22 points of the games as freshman guard/forward Erin Fitzgerald (Greensboro, NC/Bishop McGuiness) scored seven of the 22 points.  The run was capped on a three-pointer by freshman guard Kelly Mitchell (Laurel, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) with 4:28 to go in the first half on a feed from freshman forward Liz Warkala (New York, NY/Marymount School).  The Owls scored their lone points of the opening half with 4:07 remaining in the half when Rudi Vanzin got the rebound off of a missed free throw and netted a layup for Bryn Mawr's lone points of the half.  Washington scored the final 12 points of the half to take a 34-2 lead in the second half.

In the second half, Washington held the lead between 32 and 41 points the entire half.

For the Shorewomen, Fitzgerald scored a team-high and career-high 15 points and added nine rebounds.  She also blocked a career-best and game-topping three shots.  Mitchell added 12 points in the victory.  Warkala totaled a career-topping nine rebounds, to tie Fitzgerald for team-high, while freshman guard Claire Mattox (Arlington, VA/Potomac School) handed out a personal-best four assists to lead all players.  Junior guard/forward Sally O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic), sophomore center Erin Kile (Benton, PA/Benton) and freshman forward Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, VA/Indian River) each swatted away two shots, with Pledger netting a career-high in blocks.  Freshman guard Kristen Hansen (South River, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) had a team-high two steals to set a career-high in swipes.

For the Owls, Lindsey Darvin scored 16 points to lead all players, while Jackie Handy had game-bests of 10 rebounds and five steals.

Washington, who held a 61-26 edge in rebounds, had a 32-9 edge in second chance points, 30-8 in points in the paint, 24-3 in bench points and 17-2 in points off turnovers.  The Shorewomen shot 39% from the floor in the win, while holding the Owls to 18% from the floor.

Washington returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Muhlenberg.
