Box Score Shoremen Pitchers Limit Knights to Three Hits
GLENSIDE, PA -- Four pitchers combined to allow just three hits as the Washington College baseball team defeated host Arcadia, 6-2, in a non-conference game this afternoon in Glenside, PA. The Shoremen improved to 4-1 with the win, while the Knights slipped to 2-5 with the loss.
Washington took a quick lead, plating two runs in the top of the first off an RBI triple by senior catcher John Rolewicz (Bear, DE/Salesianum School) and an RBI single by junior first baseman Tyler Cotterell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South). Senior designated hitter Dwight Wilcox (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) scored on an error in the second inning and senior shortstop Ryan Normoyle (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) hit a two-run home run in the third to give the Shoremen a 5-0 lead. Washington added its final run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by sophomore second baseman Nick Marinelli (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge).
Arcadia scored its only two runs in the bottom of the eight as Taylor Schon drove in a run with a single and Mark Bowman scored on a double play.
Sophomore Brian Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ride) got the win for the Shoremen, pitching the first six innings and allowing two hits and one walk while striking out six. Senior Hunter Draheim (Hollywood, MD/Leonardtown) pitched the seventh, allowing no runs or hits. Senior Kevin Lynch (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) came on in the eighth, allowing the two Arcadia runs, one unearned, on one hit and one walk. Freshman Matt Christopher (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) walked two batters in the ninth, but allowed no hits.
Marinelli finished the game 2-for-2 with two walks, a run scored, and an RBI for Washington. Normoyle homered, walked, scored two runs, drove in two runs, and stole three bases.
The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. home game against Frostburg State.
