Connolly Named CC’s Top Rookie as Shoremen Baseball Places Six on All-Centennial Team to Match Program Best

Connolly, Kinsey and Lewis Named to First Team, Hirsh Garners Second Team with Philiposian and Ruppel Selected Honorable Mention; Corda Tabbed to All-Sportsmanship Team

LANCASTER, Pa. — A program-tying six student-athletes from the Washington College baseball team have earned All-Centennial Conference honors in a vote conducted by the conference's 10 head coaches. Senior infielder Drew Kinsey (Monkton, Md./Hereford), junior pitcher Michael Lewis (Glen Allen, Va./The Steward School) and freshman outfielder Brett Connolly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM) were first team selections, senior catcher Reese Hirsh (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) earned a spot on the second team, while seniors, pitcher Elias Philiposian (Woolwich Township, N.J./Paul VI) and infielder Chase Ruppel (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) were honorable mention.  In addition, senior pitcher Matt Corda (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) was the Shoremen's representative on the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.

Connolly additionally procured the Centennial Conference's Rookie of the Year to go along with his first team selection. He is the first baseball player and tenth from Washington College to win the CC's Rookie of the Year which was established in the 2012-13 school year. He is the first student-athlete from WC to win the award since men's tennis' Sihoo Kim in 2025.

Kinsey is a three-time All-Centennial pick, while Connolly, Hirsh, Lewis, Philiposian and Ruppel were recognized by the Centennial for the first time. The six all-conference players ties the program record for most picks, matching the 2022 team. The three All-Centennial first team selections are the most ever for the Shoremen Nine.

Kinsey, a first team pick in 2024 and second team selection in 2025, set the Shoremen record for runs scored in a season (60) and walks in a campaign (37), while setting a personal-high for stolen bases in a season (29) and on-base percentage in a campaign (.510) to lead the team. The senior hit .347 with eight home runs, 34 RBI and career-bests of hits (50), doubles (10) and triples (3) and equaling most times hit by a pitch in a season (15). He started in all 42 games this season, which set a program record in games played and started in a season. Through the end of the Centennial Conference Tournament, he is tied for second in steals, third in runs scored and walks, tied for sixth in triples, fourth in hit by pitch and ninth in on-base percentage. He finishes his career hitting .330 with 31 home runs, 109 RBI, 137 runs scored, second all-time at Washington, 149 hits, 28 doubles and seven triples in 133 contests, 130 starts.

Lewis in his first season with the Shoremen became the team's ace, going 5-2 with a 4.15 ERA in 11 appearances, 10 starts. He led the team in games started, wins, innings pitched (60.2) and strikeouts (53) this spring. In Centennial play, he went 3-1, including a career-best 10 strikeouts in a 6-1 win at Gettysburg in the first game of the doubleheader on April 26 which got the Shoremen into the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time since 2022. He also picked up conference wins against Dickinson and Haverford this spring. Through the end of the conference tournament, the junior is third in strikeouts, tied for third in innings, fifth in ERA and tied for eighth in wins.

Connolly made an immediate impact on the team setting program records in hits (67) and total bases (125) as he hit a team-best .409 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI, placing second in both homers and runs plated. The rookie of the year led the team in triples (6), slugging (.762) and on-base plus slugging (OPS) (1.211) to go along with six sacrifice flies, which tied for tops on the club, 49 runs scored, 10 doubles, 13 steals and an on-base percentage of .449 in 40 games, 39 starts. The freshman, who tied the Centennial record for most hits in a season by a freshman with his 67, had at least one hit in his final 10 games and 19 of the final 20. Through the end of the conference tournament, he is first in total bases, tied for first in triples, second in slugging, tied for second in sacrifice flies, third in hits, tied for third in OPS, fourth in batting average and homers and tied for eighth in at bats and RBI.

Hirsh hit .321 with one home run and 16 RBI in 25 games, 24 starts this season, including netting his 100th career hit in his final career home game on a double against nationally ranked Johns Hopkins on April 24. The senior scored 13 runs and worked out 15 walks while tallying a career-best .446 on-base percentage. Behind the plate, he had 124 putouts and threw out five runners trying to steal this spring. In 103 career contests, 94 starts, he recorded a .312 average with 52 runs, 103 hits, 16 doubles, three home runs, 71 RBI, 60 walks and a .422 on-base percentage.

Philiposian was the team's top reliever this season leading the squad in saves with seven while going 2-2 with a 3.76 ERA in 17 outings in 26.1 innings pitched. The senior struck out 15 hitters and held opponents to a .196 average. He picked up his seventh and final save of the season in game one win at Gettysburg on April 26. Five of his seven saves came in conference play with four of them securing one-run wins as the team went 7-1 in one-run games in Centennial action. Through the end of the conference tournament, his seven saves ranks second in the conference. In 29 career outings on the mound, all out of the bullpen he netted eight saves and struck out 25 batters in 42 innings with a 3.64 ERA as he transitioned from a field player to a pitcher as a junior. He appeared in 93 games overall with 37 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.

Ruppel set the Washington College program record in both home runs (14) and RBI (53) this season, while hitting a career-best .354 at the plate in starting in all 42 games, which tied the program mark in games played and started with Kinsey. (8) and putouts (308), while tying for most at bats in a season (158). Through the end of the conference tournament, he leads the CC in homers, sixth in OPS, seventh in RBI, eighth in at bats, tied for eighth in walks. In 149 career games, 145 starts, the senior owns the program's mark for career home runs with 32, while hitting .296 with 111 runs, 154 hits, 41 doubles, 135 RBI, a .551 slugging percentage, 305 total bases and 22 stolen bases.

The Centennial Conference also announced its All-Sportsmanship Team for baseball and Corda was the Shoremen's representative on that team.  Each Centennial Conference member institution was permitted to nominate one student-athlete who exemplifies the best in sportsmanship for the All-Sportsmanship Team. Nominations were submitted by the head coaches. This is the first time Corda has been named to the team. Corda went 4-2 in 11 appearances, four starts, in 36.1 innings pitched and was second on the team with 27 strikeouts this season. He set career-highs in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.

The Shoremen went 22-20 this season and earned the fourth trip to the conference tournament, their first since 2022, with a 10-8 mark in Centennial action.

In head coach Tom Fiala's four seasons as head coach, the Shoremen have had 12 all-conference selections, five first team picks, two second team honorees and five receive honorable mention.
